When I met with Heart Machine - the studio behindHyper Light BreakerandSolar Ash- at GDC last month, director Alx Preston stopped me from calling his team’s new game, Possessor(s), a Metroidvania. Preston says Metroidvanias are called search action games in Japan, which is a much better name for a genre as broad as this one has become. We don’t call first person shooters ‘doom-likes’ anymore, so why are we so stuck to Metroidvania - especially when most of them are justMetroid-likesanyway, without any Castlevania flavor at all?...

At one point in time,Pixarwasn’t really known for making sequels. Outside of a few Toy Story movies, every Pixar film was an original, self-contained adventure. These days, however, the studio has begun to make more follow-ups to its classic originals. Overall, the results have been mixed. Some have really expanded on their predecessors in exciting ways, continuing character arcs and adding fresh faces in the process. All that’s left is a race of intelligent rabbits who believe the Peter Rabbit books are gospel. They spend their time digging for junk in the underground tunnels leftover by the long-gone humans. In this 2.5D Metroidvania, you play as a grumpy rabbit known as Rusty Stamp, who appears to have alienated all of his friends and his family, including a daughter who is pointedly missing from the picture....

There are snapshots from an unreleased trailer, key art of a knight in Imperial armour standing in front of the Oblivion logo (which is engulfed in flames), and several shots of iconic areas, like the sewer exit at the very beginning, Ayleid ruins, and a new spriggan design that feels halfway between the original andSkyrim....
