Summary
Magic: The Gatheringhas a huge range of creatures, but have you ever considered some of the details beyond card mechanics? We all know that Secret Lair drops are themed, but there are other similarities in the artwork between different types of creatures.
Here we’ve taken a look at all the different non-humanoid creatures who are depicted wearing glasses. You don’t normally see woodland creatures or tiny devils with compromised eyesight, but MTG isn’t normal, and these creatures have an adorable bespectacled look.

10Snickering Squirrel
Giving Eggman A Run For His Money
The Snickering Squirrel has a tiny set of spectacles which are perched just above a mustache that would make Eggman proud. He is also undoubtedly snickering, with his mouth and eyes so captivating you can almost hear the sniggers as you look at his face.
The rest of him looks like a regular squirrel, but it’s the details in the face which turn him into a true character, who absolutely has some kind of evil laugh. The mustache pairs perfectly with the pince-nez glasses, completing the evil villain look. I’m not sure what he has done but I don’t think I want to find out.

9Cheap Ass
Needs To See The Bargains
Cheap Ass is a donkey who loves a bargain. Her white hair is piled neatly in a bun, and her horn-rimmed glasses match perfectly with her matronly dress, giving her the look of an elderly woman bargain hunting in cheap stores. She needs those glasses to spot the bargains.
The cheap-ass never misses a deal and is surely off to search the bargain buckets with her purse of gold coins and her keen eyes.

8Bloodroot Apothecary
A Serious Squirrel
The Bloodroot Apothecary shows an adorable bespectacled squirrel. Long flowing robes, a flower on the ear and dainty pink framed glasses with intricate detail show a fashionable and knowledgeable squirrel.
Plucking an orb of some kind from the center of a flower, the apothecary appears to be collecting ingredients, all while dressed in fine robes with a petal design, highlighted by the petal accessories. The glasses are a perfect touch to the dainty look portrayed here.

7Blurry Beeble
Ready For Action
Blurry Beeble is a magical construct who needs to know what’s going on. The armor-clad beeble has a spear ready to defend himself (and his creator) with, and heavy-rimmed glasses which make him look like he means business. His eyesight may be blurry but the glasses will help him see his goal.
They may be many times larger than his tiny eyes, but that’s simply all the better to see you with. He also has a unique mechanic for any players wearing glasses, which is a nice touch.

6Ruxa, Patient Professor
A Kindly Teacher
Ruxa, Patient Professor, appears to be a kindly teacher. As he draws on a chalkboard with some kind of magic, he gestures to his classroom with an open palm. His body language says “ask me questions” and his unique writing style says “I cannot find the chalk”.
Ruxa’s outfit is studious and regal at the same time, suggesting a bear of stature and class. The addition of glasses helps to make his face appear softer as he peers over the half-moon-shaped frames in an inquiring way. His appearance suggests he lives up to the title of a patient professor.

5Dr. Julius Jumblemorph
Serious About Medicine
Dr. Julius Jumblemorph appears every inch to be the eager doctor looking to share his knowledge. He holds a mysterious orb which he’s pointing to with a wand, making good use of the props to extend the reach of his tiny T. rex arms. His medical coat should be enough to show his status, but he compliments them with a stethoscope, as is tradition.
The tiny pince-nez spectacles perching on his nose soften his face, making those teeth appear a little more friendly. There are no smiles here but doctoring is a serious business and the glasses help show it.

Auntie Blyte, Bad Influence is surely your favorite aunt. Resplendent in her blue robes and horn-rimmed glasses, the devil advisor is literally spilling the tea as she whispers in someone’s ear. Her slight bouffant combined with the glasses have librarian vibes, but her antics are harsher than a library fine.
Auntie Blyte is the literal devil on your shoulder, encouraging you to play pranks, get revenge, and maybe much worse. She may look a little kindly at times but the tea she’s spilling isn’t the tea she’s after. She wants gossip, and whoever she’s talking to is likely to be its star.

3Doc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius
I’d Trust Him
Doc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius, is a druid who seems to have a lot to share. Holding a jar he clearly looks proud of, and surrounded by axolotls, his outfit depicts an explorer, creator, and steward of nature. He sports the pince-nez look which gives him a wise vibe.
Despite being covered in spikes, and being a bear, somehow he looks approachable and friendly. The tiny glasses really help cement the kindly old magic user sharing knowledge vibes, and takes the edge off his nature fierceness.

2Crafty Octopus
Focusing On Contraptions
This crafty octopus has a pair of very studious-looking spectacles to aid him in his contraption creation. Every tentacle is filled with tools, all the better to create things with. They don’t call him crafty for nothing after all. As he sneaks through the portal here you can see him ready to work.
Since you cannot create without seeing your creation it’s very fitting that he has reading glasses to ensure that he gets everything perfect when he assembles you a contraption when entering the battlefield.

1Stet, Draconic Proofreader
Shhhhh
Stet, Draconic Proofreader demands silence, or at least I assume that’s what likely angered him, as he appears to be demolishing a library of sorts. He clearly takes his job very seriously since he is sporting a shirt and tie, very professional looking glasses, and icy blue breath of doom.
The nearby mice are scattering, but I’m sure he’s just very protective of his work environment. I can’t imagine him having those glasses unless he’s very serious about focusing on his work. Just verify not to disturb him when he’s correcting your grammar errors.
