Because of the finicky timing of their attacks, along with the types of enemies you face, Nitrotoads are not as handy as they were in Monster Hunter Rise and its expansion. When you find them in Wyveria, they’re just a tad better to utilize due to the wider diversity of monsters you can topple.
8Flashflies
These creatures can be found clustered together during the night hours of your hunts. If you don’t have flash pods or if you want to conserve your items, triggering these bugs is super useful. While it makes most monsters unpredictable in the attack swings during their stupor, flying wyverns likeRathalosandRey Daucan be brought to the ground, letting you get some free hits.
Flashflies can be found in every region where you can gather phosphor from individual insects. They are fairly useful, endemic creatures that help you utilize your advantages in the environment. Just beware the unpredictable peril of a disoriented monster.
7Dark Hornet
A new addition to the endemic roster of friends and foes, dark hornets are small insects with a searchlight-like organ to help them track enemies during their nighttime patrols. Their nests can be found in the Scarlet Forest and the Ruins of Wyveria.
Dark Hornets are tenacious little buggers. Do not disturb their nests unless you’re in combat with a large monster. These creatures will swarm the closest threat and overwhelm it with their poisonous stinger attacks. Even powerful monsters likeRathianswill swiftly get stuck with the poison ailment.
6Purewasp
As you encounter tougher monsters, the chances of getting hit with an elemental blight or ailment will put you on edge in hunts. Even if you have restorative items like nulberries and herbal medicine, it’s always handy to find something in the environment to help.
Purewasps have blue, detoxifying nectar that helps you recover from all kinds of blights and ailments, from poison to Dragonblight. It even has the same effect as nulberries in diminishing the frenzy virus if you contract it fromGore Magalaor a frenzied monster.
5Sleeptoad
Sleeptoads are super handy in providing the best opportunities for tremendous damage against monsters. Vigorwasps gather their healing nectar from the local Vitalilies in their environments, using the nectar as their food package.
A fun detail to witness is that once you scatter the nectar to heal yourself and teammates, you may follow a wild Vigorwasp and see it gather more nectar from the lily and start the cycle anew. During the seasons of plenty, a larger variant of the Vigorwasp can be found with an even larger and more potent nectar bubble from which to heal. They’re both instrumental to utilize on the field, especially for quick healing without using potions.
2Great Thunderbugs
When the sandstorms in the Windward Plains reach their apex, thunderbugs will cluster together for reproduction, and their electrified organs can deliver a shock trap-like effect to anything that disrupts them. Thunderbug colonies are common like this and are seen in other parts of the world, especially as the source of Zinogre’s power.
In the Forbidden Lands, their gatherings are explained as a side effect of the inclemency in the Plains. Because they function as a big shock trap, you can lure large and dangerous monsters into these ultra-charged colonies and gain a foothold in the hunt, especially when you need a moment or respite in a dangerous battle.
1Paratoad
Paratoads are the one amphibian friend you’re probably gonna use the most. Their paralytic gas can freeze any unlucky monster in its wake, which is perfect for devastating attack combos and hits. Paratoads are living shock traps that can help tip the advantage in your favor - as long as you also don’t get caught in the gas radius.
Paratoads can be found around the rivers and puddles of the Windward plains and the Scarlet Forest, so when you’re in a hunt and fighting some agile monsters, you can lure them to these paratoad areas and get them set up for some numbing traps.
