However, you’ll have to find them first. The Dark Brotherhood isn’t openly recruiting, and you’re able to’t just walk into a guild hall like you would for the Fighters Guild or Mages Guild. We’ll show you how to contact the Dark Brotherhood and begin your journey as an initiate.

How To Contact The Dark Brotherhood

The Dark Brotherhood is agroup of trained assassins, and the only way to get into contact with them is tocommit a murderyourself. There are a few rules surrounding what counts as a murder, as anyblood spilled in self-defense doesn’t count.

Anyone you kill that happens to bepart of an evil factionwon’t count either, so don’t waste your time on necromancers and the like.

There are a few great options for your first murder:

You’ll know you’ve committed a valid murder whena message appearsin the corner of the screen alerting you thatforces unknown have observed your killing.

Thenext time you sleep, you’ll be greeted by Lucien Lachance, who magically appears at your bedside to inform you thatthe Dark Brotherhood would like to welcome youinto their family–if youkill a man named Rufio.

Lucien Lachance even gives you a virgin dagger named theBlade of Woefor this task. How generous of him!

A Knife In The Dark Quest

After Lucien Lachance reaches out to you, you’ll start theA Knife in the Dark quest.Rufio can befound at an innsouth of Cyrodiil. Make your way to theInn of Ill Omen, then head inside andaccess the basementvia the trapdoor. Pass by the locked door and enter Rufio’s chambers. He’s usually sleeping in the bed, making him a very easy target.

Rufio will go down easily, as he’sa frail old man. Strike fast and true, thensleep to meet with Lucien Lachanceagain. He’ll tell youwhere to find your new homeand how to get past the ancient door that keeps the Brotherhood safe.

You can sleep in the bed you kill Rufio in, if you really want to.

Where To Find The Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary

To reach the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary,travel to Cheydinhaland locate the abandoned house by the eastern wall. Pick the lock on the door, thendescend into the basement.

Pass through the broken wall and follow the trail until you reach the large, ancient door with a skull on it. The door will ask you"What is the color of night?“Answer with the phrase that Lucien Lachance gave you:“Sanguine, my brother.”

The door will grant you entry, andyou can head insideto meet with your new family.Ocheeva will talk to youright away to give you yournew armor and instructions.Congratulations, assassin!
