Fields of Mistria, like any good slice-of-life farm game, has a fishing mechanic. Catch fish, both freshwater and saltwater, throughout different seasons to either appease the local museum or cook them into delicious meals. The locals may even request one via the job board.
There are a lot of instances where you need a fish. Whether it’s your first time trying to cast a line or you’re a Mistria veteran who can’t seem to find that one specific fish, we have everything you could need to know about the fishing system.
How To Get A Fishing Rod
You don’t start with a fishing rod; you need to go out of your way to get one. There are two ways to get a fishing rod:buy one from the Fishing Shopon the beach orcraft one using March’s forge.
The fishing shop, located on the beach map just left of the entrance, will sella Worn Fishing Rod for 500 gold.
At the forge, located just left of March’s shop and home, you can craft fishing rods yourself.These cost four ingots, with Copper, Iron, Silver, and Gold respectively. They have acasting range of eight, ten, 12, and 14,respectively.
How To Use A Fishing Rod
The fishing system is fairly straightforward.Hold the tool buttonto charge your line, thenrelease it to cast it on the target.
Cast your line near the shadow of a fish, ideally near the front. If the fish notices, it will swim to it, poke at your bobber a few times, then bite.Bites are indicated by an exclamation mark pop-up. When this happens, press the tool button to catch the fish.
Some fish will consume more stamina when caught than others(it seems to be based on size), but otherwise, that’s it!
Alongside fish, you can alsofish up junk, artifacts, and treasure boxes. Skills (detailed below) will increase the odds of this happening.
Diving And Schools, Explained
There aretwo other special mechanicsinvolved with fishing: Diving spots and schools of fish. Neither of them are terribly complex, though.
Diving For Fish
If you spot adark circle with bubbles in the water, you can dive there by pressing the action button while swimming over it. Doing so will result infish and items that can’t be caught with a fishing rod,like seaweedand clams.
Seaweed can be dived for in the ocean and is an ingredient inhigher quality fodderfor your livestock.
Schools Of Fish
Schools of fish are visualized by a slightly darker spot in the water with many small shadows inside. Casting your line directly into this area allows you to catch fish multiple times. There isa predetermined limit to how many items or fish it contains, with the school disappearing once expended.
The Fishing Skill Tree
Like all of the other level-able professions in the game, fishing has a variety of skills you can unlock that improve or augment your experience.
These skills can be accessed from the Statue of Caldarus on your farm. Skills are broken up into four tiers, each having a different fishing level requirement to access. Each skill also costs a number of essence to unlock, becoming more expensive at higher tiers.

Every Fish And Where/When To Catch Them
According to the almanac in the menu, there are127 items in the Fishing and Diving section. This does include (for some reason)junk items like wood and fiber. It’s also listed inalphabetical order. This table will mimic those decisions to make things easy for anyone trying to finish the almanac.
Fish found in the mines arecategorized by which mine biome they appear in:Starter, Water, Crystal,and Lava. Each one is about 20 floors and are separated by a sealing barrier.
Blank weather boxes indicate that it can be caught in any weather condition. Fish with a star next to their name are Legendary and require the Legendary skill to catch.
