All Mushrooms Require Specific Growing Conditions

Like in the real world, you’ll find that themushrooms in Mudbornecan bequiteparticular about their growing conditions! Not only will you need to check between the realms, sinceboth worlds have their own mushroom variations(each of which comes with their own distinct trait modifiers). There are a couple ways to get mushrooms to spawn in Mudborne, but you’ll need to understand where they grow first before you may attempt to force them to appear.

There arefour general environmentson the maps where you’ll find mushrooms growing:the grasson the top of any section of island, the muddenoted by brown pits with walking boards above them tokeep your little froggy feet clean, indoorsdepending on the air quality, andin the waterdotted about as you explore the pond wandering between the island segments.Mushrooms will not grow outside their general environment, so you’ll need to have access to each of these locations in case they appear.

In addition to the location around the map, you’ll also need to pay close attention to theheat and moisture in the airat any given time, since this is where mushrooms can get tricky to pin down. It’s good to consistently check the weather conditions both at the top left of your screen and when you go to use your bed at any given point, checking out theforecast for the next five times of daybelow where you select how long to sleep.

Mushrooms require precise heat and moisture conditions before they’ll grow, so while certain mushrooms grow in extremely common conditions, you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled as conditions change throughout the day. When you spot them, mushrooms need to grow from spores before you can collect them, which takes a bit of in-game time. This can be frustrating as the weather conditions change, solook for new mushrooms right when the weather changes, since you may have a relatively small window to find them.

Trying to change the moisture or heat levels nearby to encourage new fungal growth? Speak with each of the specialists in the areas off the Central Junction - Ribbert in the Kindergarten, Kroaka in the Residential DIstrict, and and Annura in the Climate Control area. Not only will they offer plenty of cute frog furniture to stash the frogs you create with all these mushrooms in a fashionable abode, but they’ve got plenty of gear like Hydrators, Dehydrators, and Heaters to allow you to control the climate of a small area using frogs with the correct stats.

Like most things in Mudborne, you’ll also need to pay attention to which realm a mushroom in the table below grows in, sincethe waking and dreaming worlds have their own mushroom variants, each of which have unique effects, so be sure to explore both realms in all conditions - you never know what you might find growing.

Mushrooms are the key component to changing the traits of the frogs you’re breeding as you pass through generations by way of the magic muds you include in the nursery with the frogspawn eggs, so if you need to change a specific trait, be sure you’ve got the right kind of magic mud in as the tadpoles form. If not, you’ll need to try again with a new bunch of frogborne eggs and a new batch of mud.

Use Composters To Encourage Spore Growth

If you’re not willing to wait for nature to take its course and spawn a few odd mushrooms around the world, you can alwaysuse cultivators around the map to grow mushrooms when conditions are right. By leaving these boxes in a few different locations and keeping them consistently stocked with the right kind of compost for the job, you can safely walk away for a while and come back to find mushrooms have grown while you were away if conditions were right while you were.

Keep in mind, though, that the placement of your composter is critical.Put your composter on the terrain where the mushroom you need grows, or you’ll find yourself with a wealth of mushrooms you weren’t trying to grow. For example, if you place cultivators in the water outside the Carpenter’s Shop for easy accessin the waking world, only mushrooms capable of growing in water will spawn in the cultivators.

Be sure to place cultivators in water, mud, grass, and indoors, keeping them stocked with compost to catch the conditions when they’re just right. If a mushroom needs specific weather conditions to grow, you’ll need to ensure that the proper equipment is both placed nearby and has the correct frog in place. It’s best to keep frogs with genetics that lean strongly in one direction, making them the most or least of something. Pay close attention to your frogs' Umbrage and Saturation specifically, as you’ll find these to be the most common alterations.

When using your mushrooms to create magic mud for breeding, be sure to double-check your recipes, since there are plenty of ways to accidentally make trait modifiers contradict one another. With certain mushrooms rarer than others and somewhat difficult to come by because of this, you’ll want to save your rarer mushrooms for when you really need them (or at least until you’ve stocked up on a wealth of them).
