Summary

The attention to detail that the devs atLarianput intoBaldur’s Gate 3is almost unfathomable. Not only is theretons of contentthat changes based on your actions, butthe sheer amount of interactions makes it seem like the devs predicted even the most unlikely player actionsand created an outcome for it.

For instance, simply approaching the Goblin Camp in Wild Shape form will trigger a special line of dialogue by the guards. While there was no need for this, and the game would have been excused for not reacting to it, it’s impressive that the devs even thought of it. A player partaking in an evil run of the game discovered something similar recently, however, it’s way more chilling than the above scenario.

No Matter How Creative You Get, Larian Thought Of It First

Reddit userIrritableGoblinnarrated an incident from their evil run of the Baldur’s Gate 3 campaign on the subreddit. While they thought it would be funny, they were surprised to learn that they got a reaction. In fact, the reaction was so chilling that they instantly regretted it. The incident revolves around Arabella in the Emerald Grove.

“So I let Arabella die,” they explained. “And then I picked up her body. I went to her mother, and lied. I told her Arabella was alive but being held by Kagha. I then proceeded to drop Arabella’s body at her mother’s feet. I was not expecting anything to happen. Maybe a change of dialogue when I next spoke to her.

“What I was not prepared for? The heartbreaking, blood curdling wail of absolute despair that she let out the moment I dropped Arabella’s body. I had to stop playing and rethink parts of my life. I then called my own mother to tell her I love her.”

There are evil runs where you kill everyone, and then there’s this. Thankfully, OP realised that they may have taken things too far. However, the impressive thing is that the devs accounted for this. Usually, you’d expect a game not to react to such a specific action, but the blood curdling scream means that Larian had something prepared for if the mother saw Arabella’s body.
