Summary

After two separate delays that pushed the game to 2025,Assassin’s Creed Shadowsis finally here. Thegame launched to “Very Positive” reviews on Steam, andTheGamer’s George Foster awarded it a 4/5 in his review, writing, “While no one can say if Shadows will be the all-timer hit that both Ubisoft and the series need right now, I can at least say that it’s more than worthy of your time.”

It seems that gamers have largely agreed with that assessment,as Shadows has already eclipsed one million players. That number has assuredly grown in the hours since.

That number is most reflected in the franchise’s Steam numbers, where Shadows has quickly become one of the franchise’s most-played games to date, with a chance to become its highest-played.

Odyssey, Shadows Is Coming For You

Over on SteamDB, which tracks player concurents for Steam games, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has peaked at 47,616 players, which was set about 10 hours ago.

That 47,616 is good enough to top Origins (41,551), Unity (12,180), Black Flag (16,049) and Valhalla (15,679).

Unfortunately, it is still a bit of a way away from Odyssey, which stands as the highest-played game of the franchise by Steam concurrents. To this day, the game has maintained a concurrent peak of 62,069 players. What’s more, even all these years later the game has managed to average several thousand in any given 24 hours.

For what it’s worth,Ubisoft had previously noted that preorders for Shadows were in line with Odyssey. So it’s not too hard to believe that the game could top it off, especially if there’s a sale or word of mouth continues to grow. Either way, it’s a pretty major boon for a title that has had a lot riding on it.
