Summary
Ubisofthas a lot riding onAssassin’s Creed Shadows, with talks of buyouts from Tencentand other financial disasters around the corner if the game doesn’t perform. With thedisappointing performance of games like Star Wars Outlaws, and thesunsetting of XDefiant, Ubisoft needs a win and it needs one now. Thankfully, it appears as though Assassin’s Creed Shadows is doing pretty well.
First posted to the Assassin’s Creed Twitter account, it’s been revealed that the game has already reached an impressive player milestone. Less than 24 hours after launch, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has managed to amass over one million players, and that number will more than likely grow as the days go by, and we reach the weekend.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is Off To A Flying Start
Of course, player numbers don’t always equal sales. We know thatthe game peaked at 41,412 players on Steam today, but we know that consoles are where the majority of the Assassin’s Creed fanbase will probably be, and there are also people downloading the game essentially for free on Ubisoft+ to take into account.
That being said, over a million players is still an impressive number to rack up less than 24 hours after launch, and it’s worth noting thatAssassin’s Creed Valhalla- the most successful game in the series -peaked at 15,679 players on Steama little over 2 years ago. No matter how you slice it, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is doing well.

That will be a big boost to Ubisoft and those that have worked on game, especially with how much vitriol and toxicity has surrounded it up to release. There has been so much thatUbisoft had drawn up plans to help its workers deal with online abusebefore release, andthey themselves recently shared what they’ve been dealing with during their time working on the series. Hopefully, they can feel good about having overseen the release of a success.
