Summary

Patch 8 ofBaldur’s Gate 3is out, and that means Larian is officially moving on from the game. However, the final update gave us a lot of things to play around with, and another excuse to replay the game. Along withphoto mode to remember all our adventures, the update introduced 12 new subclasses.

Among these new subclasses is theHexblade Warlock. Perfect for those who like to mix it up between melee and spells, the Hexblade subclass lets you bind yourself to certain weapons, making your character a master in no time. While this is one of the main abilities of the Hexblade Warlock, it seems many players simply forget to use it.

Preparation Is Key

Preparation is very important for magic users, and, in the case of the Hexblade Warlock, they need to bind the hexblade weapon after every long rest. However, with the number of things going on, it seems a lot of players are forgetting the key feature of this class. Of course, you can still Eldritch Blast your way through things, but that renders the whole point of Hexblade moot.

While some players are hoping that it becomes a free action in combat, others believe that the binding process counts as preparation – the same as wizards – and adds to the immersiveness of the game. You need to remember to bind the weapon to yourself, or else you won’t be able to unleash the full potential of the subclass.

“I think it’s fine,” explained one comment on a post byTheBrandonReddit. “You shouldn’t get overpowered abilities if you can’t remember to do one thing, that’s roleplaying.” Another said, “Wizards should have to study each morning, and clerics should have to pray for their spells. Druids… I have no idea what druids are supposed to do.”

However, the forgetful lot of us can’t keep up with slots and preparation, so we just tend to go with the Barbarian class. “And that is why I always play Barbarian,” said one player. “My brain always forgets that spells exist.”

This issue particularly affects those who prefer using Shadow Blade. You need to cast it after every long rest and then bind it as well. This results in forgetful players being hilariously underprepared. “You forget to cast shadow blade, get into a fight, have no melee weapon equipped, so cast shadow blade in melee, enjoy your +3 attack bonus. That’s what really happens,” pointed out someone who probably had to go through this.
