Summary
Baldur’s Gate 3has been an industry phenomenon that few of us expected. After years and years of publishers acting like single-player games, particularly complex RPGs, were a thing of the past,a sequel to an old CRPG took the world by storm. Ever since its launch in 2023, it’s pulled in numbers to rival the most popular live services, securing its place as one of the greats, both commercially and critically.
Now,Larianhas brought the story to a close, dropping the final major update with Patch 8. This added 12 new subclasses, photo mode, crossplay, and a whole host of improvements and fixes across the game.

This final update is proving to be a hit. As we can see over on Steam, Baldur’s Gate 3 has suddenly shot upthe best sellers chartsonce again, and its playerbase has seen its biggest spike of the past 12 months. That’s a whole lot of people coming back for more, or even diving in for the first time, as the update gives new and returning players alike a lot to play around with.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Is A Hit Once Again
At the time of writing, there are 139,874 people playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam alone, with a 24-hour concurrent player peak of 142,140, according toStreamDB. This doesn’t take other launchers into account, or those playing on console. On the Steam charts, it’s shot up 26 places, now in ninth place among the recent best sellers.
This makes a lot of sense. New subclasses give everyone a reason to start a new game, and the photo mode might make you want to boot up an old save. The latter very much applies to me - I hope you’re enjoying looking at my Tav and Karlach smooching at the top there. I spent a ridiculous amount of time setting that up.
