AI Limitintroduces you to a gorgeous post-apocalyptic world that functions on core Soulslike mechanics. From unique weapons and spell mechanics to a fresh Sync Rate system, there are several key components to the game’s combat system that breathe life into the genre.

Newcomers to the genre may have a tough time dealing with its punishing nature. Some essential tips and tricks go a long way, and AI Limit offers novel ways of making the most of its mechanics. Before taking Havenswell by storm as a promising Blader, keep in mind some valuable information to start your journey.

Filling up the Sync Rate bar by hitting an enemy in AI Limit.

Keep An Eye On Your Sync Rate

While Arrisa is an exceptional Blader who stops at nothing when it comes to deadly combos, the game’s Sync Rate mechanic can get in your way many times. Since AI Limit doesn’t have a traditional stamina system, your Sync Rate bar will define how effective you arein battle.

The more damage you do, the more this builds up. The higher your Sync Rate bar, the more additional damage you do. While this may tempt you to spam light attacks, you’ll need to take breaks in order to parry, block or dodge enemy attacks. When you take damage, not only does your health go down — your Sync Rate meter falls, resulting in weaker damage output. The best way to handle this is to be confident in your attacks and take a step back to study an enemy’s movement.

Weapon Skills are awesome combat maneuvers, but use up your Sync Rate bar. So, use these only when necessary.

Shuffle Between Quick Items

You can quickly use items from your inventory by pressing a single button in-game. From your inventory, equip these before heading into a fight. You can use healing items, throwables (like a Mini Bomb), and so on.

Switching between items you can quickly usewill help you during a battleevery time you have some breathing space. Especially during a boss fight when you need to equip something and don’t have the time to open your inventory and manage everything. Quick-equipping items also lets you switch up your playstyle, and get you in the habit of adapting to a fight. Just like how you manage your inventory through quick items, you can also switch between parrying and using a shield.

Many enemies struggle against throwable items. For instance, before a boss starts charging up, throw a Mini Bomb to damage and potentially stagger them.

Upgrade And Enhance Efficiently

When you’re resting at a Branch, you canuse your hard-earned Crystals to upgrade your statsand enhance your weapons. Enhancing a weapon can be a long-term commitment, but upgrading your stats should come naturally to you as the game progresses.

Focus on upgrading your Life, Vitality and Strength first, as these will determine how you do in a battle and how well you may survive fights. Then, build your Technique and Skill based on the playstyle you wish to achieve. If you lose to a tough boss or simply fall off a cliff (we’re not judging), no need to worry! Unlike most Soulslike games, AI Limit only takes a portion of your Crystals from you when you die.Sadly, these cannot be gained back.

Try to equip powerful gear as soon as you can. You can find the Blade Armor and Blade Visor pretty early on in the game.

Build Your Combat Rhythm

Every Soulslike functions on unique weapon movesets. This means that each AI Limit player will have their own way of handling a weapon and how they perform combos. To get a hang of this early on,build a rhythmic moveset for yourself.

First, determine which type of weapon you’re most comfortable with. If it’s a Greatsword that strikes your fancy, then your slashes will feel a bit slow and heavy. If Dual Blades are more your thing, then rapid succession of attacks are more your thing.

Next, think of a combo that’s unique to you. Here’s an example: light attack, light attack, dodge, parry. Or, light attack, heavy attack, dodge, spell-casting. Based on which moves feel most comfortable to you, build a rhythm and stick to it. This will improve your encounters.

Use Healing Items Sparingly

It’s tempting to spam healing items, especially when you’re starting to learn thebasics of healingin AI Limit. While healing when your health is low may seem the most obvious thing to do,it’s not always the answer to long-term survivability.

For short-term uses,Mud Balls are the way to go. They’re easier to find and often reliable. However, they slowly fill up your health and aren’t the best during fast-paced boss fights. Unless there’s a lot of room for you to dodge attacks and wait until your health is back up.

Arrisa’s Life Dews are way more reliablesince they can improve her health almost immediately. However, they’re also rare and one-time use items until you rest at a Branch.

While Mud Balls are easy to find, try to rely more on your fighting skills. This way, you’ll improve your combat techniques and treat consumables as a more valuable resource.

Master Backstabbing And Parrying

Backstab mechanics in Soulslike games are often some of the most satisfying things to pull off. This stays true for AI Limit, andbackstabbing can almost finish off enemies in one go. You don’t even have to always sneak up to them for this!

If you’re fast enough, you can quickly catch up with an enemy before they notice you.The moment there’s a glowing orb on their back, hit your attack button. On the other hand, parrying attacks can feel much more difficult.

Arrisa’s Counter Field ability is a flawless way of parrying attacks and can be extremely rewarding. However, you need to time this correctly and it will require a lot of practice.Keep doing so, and soon backstabbing and parrying will become part of your combat technique.

When you’re at the camp at the Outer-Wall Ruins, you may find a torsoless robot who acts like an enemy dummy. Practice your attacks and parries, and fill up your Sync Rate here.

Utilize Branches To Re-Visit Areas

Branches act as save points for Arrisa, and she will uncover more of these as the game progresses. When you’re here, verify youexplore every corner of the area to unlock shortcuts.

Opening doors and gates, or simply taking an elevatorcan open up new pathways, unlocking a new Branch once you come across it. Even if there’s not a Branch nearby, unlocking shortcuts can make it easier to navigate the world.

Additionally, Branches let you teleport between one another. The idea is togo back to places you’ve been to before, but once you’re stronger. This will let you take on enemies you couldn’t before, and potentially uncover new mysteries hiding within Havenswell.

Switch Between Playstyles

At the beginning of the game, you’ll choose between a few weapons to determine your playstyle. Don’t let this limit your journey! Once you start discovering new weapons, feel free to explore their movesets and experimentwith your playstyle.

If you’ve been a Greatsword user, then try switching to Dual Blades. Halberts and Lances are great too. Between heavy single-opponent damage to clearing out multiple enemies at once, each weapon excels at something unique to its type.

Furthermore, there’s always a new learning curve based on the weapon you pick. For instance, there’s a set ofDual Blades you’ll find early in the game called Bonecrackers. Not only are these stylish to use, they also do incredible damage build-up, pushing you to learn a new style of combat.

During the early hours of the game, don’t commit to enhancing a single weapon. Experiment with a few first, and then decide which one deserves your resources and attention.
