Sephiriafeatures a pixelated world that is certainly easy on the eyes. While its cute animals and smooth mechanics make it easy to get into, dungeon-crawling becomes a challenging adventure as you dive deeper into the game. From unpredictable bosses to varying enemy types, the game features several challenges.
On a positive note, the game’s incredibly vast gear and weapon system helps you pick a unique playstyle, improving your odds against such challenges. On top of that, having certain tips and strategies in mind can help you explore this mysterious world better.
Practice Dashing And Parrying
At its core, Sephiria thrives on combat mechanics that are similar to a lot of hack-and-slash games that fall under the roguelike genre. This means that dashing (or dodging) and parrying attacks are going to be the most useful combat maneuvers in the game.
When performing a dash,always keep an eye on the red barsthat indicate an enemy’s area of attack. Give it at least a second before you choose to dash. If you dash earlier, you’ll lose your position and expose yourself to other foes. If you dash later, you’re prone to damage.
To perform a perfect counter-attack, press the right-click mouse buttonright before the enemy attacks. Since this takes a while to get a hang of, attempt to practice this during the first level of dungeon exploration. Usually, you’ll come across enemies that aren’t a big threat.
Dashes are limited. There’s no point in spamming them just to avoid attacks. So, be careful with each dash!
Use Traps Against Enemies
Some of the cleverest yet deadliest parts of the dungeons in Sephiria are traps. The moment you step on these,they trigger within a second. As dangerous as this may be, it’s equally useful against enemies. All you need to do is time your movements.
When an enemy is approaching you, attempt to lure them towards the trap. Once they are ready to attack (notice the red bars),quickly dash through the trap. This way, you will be able to trigger it without getting hurt. However, there’s more to this technique.
Foes go througha little knockback effect when you hit them. Use this to your advantage, and hit them in the direction of a trap. Once they’re standing or moving on the trap, try to keep them there. This is one way of using Sephiria’s environments against your enemies.
Don’t forget about boxes that contain TNT! These are particularly helpful when fighting a big horde of enemies.
Pick And Place Artifacts Carefully
As you progress through different levels within a dungeon, you’ll be rewarded with Artifacts.These enhance your gameplayby providing you with powerful weapon enhancements, health buffs, defense stats and more. However, picking and placing them should be strategic.
Some Artifacts can beleveled up when placed around other items. You will notice these through subtly marked arrows or directions when managing your inventory. Never ignore this, as this can be the difference between surviving your next round or simply losing and restarting.
When picking an Artifact, choose something powerful likeRiposte Blade Fragment, Scabbard of Exorcism or the Golden Handbell. While it’s completely up to you how you build your playstyle, items like these early on can help you deal more damage and keep you safe.
Upgrade The Right Talents
Talents, like permanent skills, stay with you as you progress through the game.These are equipped when you visit your homeand spend some time there. While you can freely pick whatever you wish to, there are some important Talents that should not skip your attention.
If you’re simply starting the game from scratch and just got done re-building your house, we suggest you put some points intoSurvival, Endure, and Wisdom. Later, start investing in Swiftness and Wrath.
This way,you’ll build a strong foundationfor keeping your character safe from harm, and then once you’re confident in your playstyle, invest in Talents that help you fight better. In a game like this, you want to survive and go far, rather than be aggressive and die quicker.
Experiment With Exploration
Sephiria lets you explore the game in fascinating ways. Before you go deeper into a dungeon,you’ll be asked to choosewhere you wish to go. You can pick a place that earns you a lot of money, or find a special Artifact. Sometimes, you can even face a Mini Boss!
So, how do you decide where to head? Well, this depends on your goals. If you wish to build your arsenal early on,we recommend exploring areas that offer Artifacts or Roots(a place filled with mysterious vibes) since this is the time when you are freely building your playstyle.
Once you have the money for it,visit an area with a Wandering Merchant. Then, when you are confident with how the core mechanics function, try to head to an area that lets you level up almost immediately and fight a Mini Boss.
Don’t forget tobreak objects around you. Some contain consumables that can refill your health by pressing and holding the R key.
Prioritize Long-Range Attacks
Every time you enter a new area in the Dungeon,verify to take out ranged enemies first. If you don’t, there’s a high chance that your fights with melee-wielding foes will be interrupted, resulting in a dip in health for you.
There are two variants that are common at early levels. One will throw a bomb that does some area-of-effect damage, while the other shoots orbs that scatter across the area. While it’s annoying to deal with something like this,you can be the one inflicting such attacks.
Magic Wand is an excellent weapon to find and equipearly on if you get the chance to do so. This turns your attacks into Magic Missiles, that travel far distances and deal damage. Enemies stand little chance against you if you master long-range fights.
Invest In The Right Destiny Inscriptions
At the end of it all, Destiny Inscriptions are how you progress through Sephiria’s narrative. After all, your bunny is the one who changes the fate of the world, and investing in Destiny Inscriptionsallows you to improve your gameplayas well as shape your experience.
Initially, it is a good idea toinvest Sapphires into Talent Points and Level Up Restoration. Stick to just these two at first, since they can help you improve your chances of surviving and fighting in the dungeon for a longer period of time.
Once you have more Sapphires, you can thenlook into investing points in the Dice Inscription. This will allow you to re-roll your rewards, increasing your chances of finding better gear when you’re exploring new areas in a dungeon.
Get Companions Early On
Fighting alone can be a courageous thing to do in the game, but having companions by your side makes things much simpler. Certain Artifacts and friends in the dungeon can accompany youas they deal damage to foes and distract bosses.
For instance,the Golden Handbell summons a companionwho will fight for you and stick with you regardless of which enemy shows up. Meanwhile, the Yellow Planet Artifact summons a little planet that shoots projectiles passively. These are essential items to find early on!
Finally, you’ll alsofind Artifacts that periodically do damage for you. Chakram is a good example of an item like that, and cuts through foes occasionally. However, you cannot completely rely on such Artifacts since they have a brief reload time.
Before you enter a boss fight, make sure you check each arena carefully. Sometimes, you’ll find mercenaries who are ready to fight for you for a small fee.
