Tokyo Ghoul is an absolute classicanime, first airing back in 2014. Since this original 12-episode run, two more seasons aired, with a grand total of 48 episodes. This is a lot, but of course, it could always be more. What do you do when you want more Tokyo Ghoul, but you’ve watched everything?
At this point, you’re able to watch shows similar to Tokyo Ghoul. Here, we are going to look at some of the best anime to watch if you are a fan of Tokyo Ghoul. These recommendations target different aspects of Tokyo Ghoul, so you are bound to find something that you like.

This list is presented in no particular order.
10Parasyte
Out of all the anime on our list, Parasyte may be the most like Tokyo Ghoul. Both features a slightly lame protagonist who comes into power without explicitly seeking it out. Both shows also touch on the monstrousness of humanity.
Parasyte follows Shinichi Izumi, who is just a regular high school student. Shortly into the story though, parasites land on Earth and basically implant themselves in the brain of their host. Rather than being in his brain, Shinichi’s parasite resides in his hand, allowing him to talk with it. It sounds weird, but it’s very good.

9Chainsaw Man
Chainsaw Man made waves when it first came out, and it’s for a good reason. This is similar to Tokyo Ghoul in the fact that the main character isn’t just fully human, he’s a hybrid. In fact, Denji is a hybrid with the Chainsaw Devil.
Even if you aren’t a fan of Tokyo Ghoul, Chainsaw Man is well worth the watch. The world-building is unique, and the characters are all fantastic. There is only one season right now, but the movie is set to come out in September 2025!

8Deadman Wonderland
Next up, we have Deadman Wonderland. If you are looking for a show that starts off following an ordinary person, only to take a dark turn, then this is the show for you. While on a field trip, Ganta is framed for a horrific event.
Deadman Wonderland combines this horror with mystery and some comedy, making for a watching experience that will leave you craving more. The season only has 12 episodes, but thankfully, the manga is complete, so you may get the full story.

7Kaiju No. 8
Another anime featuring a character who can transform into something dangerous? Sign us up. Kaiju No. 8follows the story of Kafka Hibino, who can essentially turn into a Kaiju and fight other Kaiju.
If you aren’t familiar with this word, Kaiju means ‘strange beast’ in Japanese, with some popular examples being King Kong, Godzilla, and Ghidorah. Kaiju battles should be enough to entice you to watch this unique anime.

6Shiki
Shiki is set in a small and rural Japanese town, but all is not as peaceful as it seems. Strange deaths leave residents wondering what is going on. Little do they know, they are in a vampire anime.
Vampires aren’t necessarily in Tokyo Ghoul, but you can definitely see the differences. Ghouls have vampiric tendencies and prove to be quite terrifying. If you like this ‘vampire’ aspect of Tokyo Ghoul, then give Shiki a watch!

5Future Diary
In terms of content, Future Diary isn’t much like Tokyo Ghoul. Hear us out on this one though. If you like the dark vibe of Tokyo Ghoul, you’ll be pleased to know that Future Diary is just as dark and at times, a bit weirder.
Future Diary follows the story of Yuki, who eventually comes to find himself in a death match created by a god. Of course,we can’t forget the Yandere queen herself, Yuno Gasai, who would do literally anything for Yuki.

4Ajin: Demi-Human
For those of you who are fans of the societal split between humans and Ghouls, Ajin: Demi-Human may be the show for you. In this anime, Ajin are immortal humans. Rather than being treated the same as everyone else, they are feared and arrested on sight.
High schooler Kei Nagai learns that he is an Ajin shortly into the story, and his whole world is turned upside down. Like Tokyo Ghoul, Ajin: Demi-Human shows both the human perspective and the ‘monster’ perspective.

3Devilman Crybaby
Looking at all the entries on our list, Devilman Crybaby is the most similar to Chainsaw Man. This show features Akira Fudou, who ends up merging with a devil to become a… devilman. Interestingly, this anime is based on the manga called Devilman, which was published in the 1970s. In this show, the time period has been adjusted to reflect real life, so it’s the 21st century.
Devilman Crybaby is violent, dark, and tragic. This can also be said about Tokyo Ghoul though, as both anime dive into the nature of humanity and what it means to be ‘other’.

2Attack On Titan
Attack on Titan isone of the more popular shows on our list, set in a walled city where giant titans loom. If you have never watched this, we don’t want to spoil it for you, as it’s a wild ride. Just know that as the show progresses, you’ll find some similarities between Ken Kaneki and Eren Yeager.
Both shows feature humanity versus a ‘monster’, but the story has been executed differently. Overall, Attack on Titan is well worth watching, especially if you are a fan of long-term character development.

1Death Parade
Last but not least, we have Death Parade. Rather than being set primarily in a city (like Tokyo), this anime focuses on an afterlife bar, where the recently deceased go to reveal the nature of their soul.
The premise of this show is unique and told beautifully. It’s also an anime original that is complete, so the entire story is told within the 12 episodes, making for a satisfying watch.
