Still, It’s Not Easy Being A Master stands on it’s own legs once you get past the initial similaries at the beginning. This novel is perfect if you want a simple rebirth story that won’t leave you feeling sad, which we all need every once in a while.
5Grandmaster Of Demonic Cultivation
Grandmaster Of Demonic Cultivation is another MXTX book. As such, the world feels familiar. This novel follows Wei Wuxian, who is a bit of an unconventional cultivator. Overall, it’s simple and perfect if you are looking to get into Danmei.
As a reminder, Danmei is a genre of Chinese fiction that focuses on love between men, similar to the Japanese BL. Grandmaster Of Demonic Cultivation focuses on plot, with this romance coming in second, but it’s still a great read if you are looking to start reading Danmei.

Next up, we have Faraway Wanderers. If you search online about Faraway Wanderers, you may notice that it is a sequel to Lord Seventh, but thankfully, they stand alone. This novel in particular is in the Wuxia genre, which is Chinese fiction that involves martial arts adventures in Ancient China.
So, what is Faraway Wanderers about? This follows a commander in an organization that worked directly for the prince. After retiring and leaving this life behind though, he manages to get tangled up in the martial arts world.

If you like Heaven Official’s Blessing but need something darker, then The Husky And His White Cat Shizun is the novel for you. This is a beautiful redemption story following a man who honestly, was quite terrible.
After being reborn and transmigrated to when he first became a cultivation disciple, Mo Ran has a chance to do things differently. After being reborn, he starts to see others around him differently, including Shizun, who has always been by his side.
2Thousand Autumns
Thousand Autumns gives us two seemingly opposite characters that end up side-by-side. As with Heaven Official’s Blessing, you’re able to expect an Ancient Chinese setting and characters who excel in cultivation.
When Shen Qiao almost dies, Yan Wushi finds him and takes him under his wing and essentially attempts to corrupt him. The two main characters here are phenomenal and serve as a great balance to each other, which is great if you like the dynamic between Xie Lian and Hua Cheng (though it’s not completely the same).
1Nan Chan
Last but not least, we have Nan Chan. The story of this one is a bit strange, but it has that classical Chinesemythological feel. After murdering the Emperor of Heaven, Jing Lin is ‘annihilated’ and most think that he is dead.
Of course, this isn’t true; he’s been living alongside a carp that eventually turns human. Together, the two end up going on a journey to recover a lost item that features tons of strange events, as well as a dive into their pasts.
