Summary
There are many methods you may choose to defeat your foes inGenshin Impact. Where some characters get up and personal with the monsters using their proficiency with weapons or their combat prowess, others choose to hit enemies from away with arrows or magic. If you’ve ever thought to rain down death upon your enemies using yourself as a projectile, there are plenty of characters that help with Plunge damage.
From the adorably vicious wrestler Varesa to other, less Plunge-y options like Alhaitham, we’ve listed out every character with either a special Plunged Attack, or just those that work well in Plunge teams with Xianyun, to compile a list of the best Plunge characters in Genshin Impact.

8Alhaitham
Alhaitham is the strongest Dendro DPS in Genshin Impact, being played in a variety of team archetypes from Hyperbloom to Spread to Quickbloom. HisElemental Mastery scalingand his strong damage numbers makes him an extremely versatile character who can make use of his Elemental Skill, Burst, Charged Attacks, and even Normal Attacks to combo each part of his kit together.
You don’t have to put Xianyun with Alhaitham to make use of his Plunge Attacks. While the frequency will be lower, you may aim Alhaitham’s skill up into the air to trigger a Plunge.
Like many other characters on this list, Alhaitham has a self-infusion on all his attacks. This means that your Plunge Attacks can do Dendro damage and make use of the reactions and buffs that come alongside it. Furthermore, so long as Alhaitham possesses any Chisel-Light Mirrors, which he always should, each of his Plunge Attacks will unleash a barrage of Dendro projectiles on enemies around him, making his Plunges hurt even more.
7Hu Tao
Hu Tao’s one of the strongest hypercarries in the game with her strong Pyro application and ability to repeatedly deal bursts of damage. However, most of her damage is locked behind her Charged Attacks, which means there’s not much of a reason to play Hu Tao in a Plunge team.
However, Xianyun ends up being one ofHu Tao’s strongest supportsin her Furina teams. Not only is Xianyun a strong healer to maximize Fanfare stacks, but since Hu Tao already wants to jump after every Charged Attack to cancel her animations, this lets Hu Tao incorporate Plunge Attacks into her combo after every Charged one, making her deal even more damage than she otherwise would.
6Kazuha
When you think of characters with Plunge damage in their kits, you don’t usually think of Kazuha. He’s one of the strongest supports in the game, providing tons of buffs with both his kit and Viridescent Venerer’s four-piece effect while also pulling enemies closer to each other and dealing a decent amount of damage.
However, Kazuha has an enhanced Plunge Attack in his kit that can be used whenever he uses his Elemental Skill to jump into the air. This attack doesn’t deal a lot of base damage, but the Anemo Swirl that happens afterward can cause reactions and wreck havoc when against multiple enemies. you may use Kazuha’s plunges in a Xianyun team, but also if you put him on the Sacrificial Sword or give him the Thundering Fury artifact set.
5Xianyun
If the Plunge Attack archetype had a face, it’d be Xianyun. While there are certainly teams that work without her, Xianyun is the one character that enables and buffs any Plunge team in Genshin Impact. She lets allies fly up high into the air to turn even those without any Plunge synergy into beacons of the archetype and then further buffs their Plunge Attack damage.
Xianyun buffs characters who already Plunge, such as Varesa, Gaming, or Xiao, but also enables those that cannot jump high enough themselves, like Diluc. This makes her the premier Plunge support with the added benefit of having strong teamwide healing, as well as the ability to make use of the Viridescent Venerer set to increased allies' damage even further.
4Gaming
Four-star characters are usually just worse versions of premier five-star units. While certain supports can hold their against the strongest five-star characters, four-star DPS characters are almost always several leagues below their premier alternatives to the point that they’re pretty much useless.
The first four-star DPS that is good enough to warrant you using him over even five-star hypercarries is Gaming, a Pyro claymore user from Liyue. He’s got decent motion values that are further buffed by reactions like Melt or Vaproize, and his constellations make him even greater of a carry than he already is. At high investments, Gaming can be a unit that deals similar levels of damage to the best five-star characters.
3Xiao
As the first Plunge Attack DPS to ever be released in Genshin Impact, Xiao has long been the face of the archetype. With his self-contained kit and his strong AOE, he used to be one of Genshin Impact’s strongest DPS characters, albeit declining very quickly in popularity when newer carries came out.
Still, with characters like Xianyun and Faruzan nowbuffing him to heights previously unseen, Xiao is still a strong hypercarry who can clear any content by himself. If you like the gameplay of Plunge Attack teams or if you just need a character who can Plunge often to deal with certain enemies, Xiao is always a splendid choice.
2Diluc
As on of Genshin Impact’s oldest hypercarries, Diluc has been in the game long before Plunge Attack carries were a viable archetype. He used to be one of the strongest Pyro hypercarries in Genshin Impact by a huge margin, but ultimately lost out to carries released later. Like Xiao, though, Xianyun’s addition to the game brought him back into the meta.
Without Xianyun, Diluc can still hit Plunge Attacks by making use of a mechanic called Dragonstrike.
Currently, Diluc has one of the strongest Plunge DPS teams in the game. Even if he has no way of enabling his own Plunge Attacks, the sheerdamage numbers he has, paired with his self Pyro-infusion, lets him output immense levels of Melt damage. However, unlike many other characters on this list, Diluc will only be able to Plunge if you have Xianyun.
1Varesa
Natlan as a whole has been filled with strong characters who can hold their own in the meta with little investment, and Varesa continues this trend. She’s essentially a five-star version of Gaming, using her Elemental Skill to jump up into the air and then come crashing down, literally.
Varesa is an absolutely adorable character to have, despite her identity as a pro wrestler. She might not be able to make use of strong elemental reactions like Melt or Vaporize, but her strong damage values and extremely fun playstyle make her one of the best Plunge characters in Genshin Impact.
