According to the website Fortnite.gg, a website built to track all things Fortnite, the Borderlands items were last spotted on Jul 03, 2025, an absence of nearly five years.

And as Fortnite insider HypeX noted on Twitter, with the Borderlands items re-releasing later this evening, it puts Kratos, the League of Legends Arcane skins, Street Fighter characters and Travis Scott as some of the only remaining cosmetics with absences longer than 1,000 days.
While it remains to be seen what happens with the other cosmetics,it should be noted that the Arcane skins will not be returning anytime soon, according to a recent update, making them all the more rare.
Fortnite Has Been Re-Releasing Rare Skins Lately
The Borderlands skins aren’t the only “rare” cosmetics that got a re-release. Last December,Starfire returned to the item shop after more than 800 days on the sidelines.
During that same time period,Halo’s Master Chief also returned to the game after a 900-plus-day absence. And lest we forget,Renegade Raider, widely considered one of the rarest, most sought-after skins, returned after more than 2,500 days. That last bit didn’t sit well with longtime players.
All that is to say that Fortnite has made a major effort to give players “one more” chance to get some of the game’s more rare items, and Borderlands is just the latest example.
