It wouldn’t be anAssassin’s Creed game without any targets to assassinate. InAssassin’s Creed: Shadows, you’ll be doing a lot of this. Some are tied to the main story, while others help you get more XP and better gear. The game requires tons of grinding, which can be a little tedious.
Assassination missions can make the grind more fun. This can be found in the Hunters of Kyonyo Quest. It has many moving parts that make the mission both interesting and complicated. Since the targets for this mission aren’t clear as day, this walkthrough can help get you going.
How To Unlock Hunters Of Kyonyo
Obtaining this mission is somewhat unclear. But it seems tounlock around Act Threeand when you reachNegoroji in northern Kii.
When you make it to town, head toFudo-do Temple, located in theeastern part of Negoroji. It should be just past theMonk Quarters.
This quest can be done with eitherNaoe orYasuke. Both characters work well for this mission, so it boils down to which method you want to use.
Upon arriving at the temple, you’ll meet a characternamed Kennyo. He should be standing near the templein front of a bell. By talking to him, he’ll explain that Bounty Hunters threaten the region and that you need to take care of them.
To make matters worse, his son is also in danger. So, to complete this quest, you mustslay the five Bounty Huntersin the Kii province. Killing them may be the easier part, but knowing where they are is the challenge.
All Hunters Of Kyonyo Locations
Some of these targets are more straightforward. You simply need to find a letter, and then their locations get revealed. Others will have you doing more legwork, such as investigating areas. This makes the quest more immersive since you’re more engaged.
Below, you can find exactly what needs to be done to trigger each assassination.
Bounter Hunter Target 1 - Inumaru: The Ambusher
After speaking to Kennyo, the Hunters of Kyonyo’s objective should be availableon the Objective Board. By navigating to it, you may see you’ll need to investigate incentral Kii.
You’ll only have one detail about The Ambusher, which will take you tosoutheast Koyasan and west of Sazae Oni Shores. Once there,you’ll find a Roninthat you need to fight. After beating him, the Ronin drops a letter telling you to go toYakushi Onsen, locatedeast of the Nakahechi Route.
Inumaru will be located around this spot. He may be alone while roaming around during the day, which makes it ideal for an attack.
Bounty Hunter Target 2 - Kamakichi: The Spy
Heading towestern Kii in Saika, look for a house. It should be in thenortheastern part of the town. When you enter the house, you’ll need tocollect 3 items. The first item will beon the table left of the main door. The other two will be on thebed mats directly in front of the door.
When you collect all three,Kamakchi’s location will be revealed. Depending on the time of day,he’ll be at different spots. Duringthe night, he’ll besouth of Saika Castle in the Monk Houses. While inthe day,he should be locatednorth of the Monk Houses in the market.
When you down Kamakchi, head to thesouthwest corner of Saika Temple Grounds, which isbehind Saika Castle, and look for ahole to go down. When you jump down, you’llmeet Kyonyo, Kennyo’s son.
After talking to him,grab both letters nearby. Doing so will reveal your next two targets.
Bounty Hunter Target 3 - Shishi-o: The Interrogator
For this target, you’ll need to be insoutheastern Kii in Kumano Sanzan. Once you’re in this region, headsouth to Kumano Nachi Taisha Temple. The Interrogator will bebehind this temple; just follow the stairs in theback right corner. He’ll be interrogating a few NPCs.
Bounty Hunter Target 4 - The Shinobi: Toro
To trigger this quest, you have to beplaying at night. Otherwise, the NPCs you need to interact with won’t show up.
Once it’s nighttime, head toKoyasan in Kii. It’ll be in thenorthern section of the region. Once there, look for theOrnament Vendor. She’ll besouth of Kongobuji Temple and west of the hideout. From the Ornament Vendor, headsouth past the market. You should see aguard overlooking a body.
By talking to him, you’ll be instructed to go toMonks’ District, which iswest of your location.
When you arrive at the Monks' District,talk to the monkoutside the temple. Afterward,follow him inside. You’ll have toset up an ambush by getting rid of 4 light sourcesin one of the houses. When that’s done,the Shinobi will appear. He’ll be sneaking around the temple grounds,so make sure you’re doing the same.
After you’ve taken down the fourth target,head to the southwestern part of Iseji Trails. It’ll be located in thewest of Kii. Kyonyo will be located at a camp at thesouthern tip of the Iseji Trails.
Interact with him, and you’ll find out the Bounty Hunter leader has kidnapped his father and is holding himat a fort nearby.
Bounty Hunter Target 5 - Tsuchi-Gumo: Bounty Leader
Upon discovering that Kennyo has been kidnapped, it’ll be up to you, Kyonyo, and his men to save his father. Fortunately,you won’t have to go farsince the fort he’s at is near your location. Make your waynorthwest of the Kyonyo’s camp to Akagi Fort.
When you reach it, you’ll meet Kyonyo there again. Both of you will discuss a plan of attack that will end with a dialogue option. The choices are:
Going alone is tougher since the fort is crawling with guards. If you pick the second option,Kyonyo and his men will attack the first wave of enemies, allowing you to sneak in behind and find your last target.
Do this mission during the daytime as Tsuchi-Gumo is surrounded by fewer soldiers, which makes it easier to assassinate him.
As you enter the fort, make your way to theupper middle section with the tower. He will be located in this area.
With the Bounty Leader defeated, exit the fort, and you’ll find Kyonyo and Kennyo togetheroutside the entrance.After interacting with them, the quest is completed.
