Summary

Cyberpunk 2077offers youa lot of choices. You could become a corporate shill and work for the overlords, or you can become a Nomad and live off the grid. Even within missions, the choices you make will change the outcome, and even the rewards in some cases. However, there’s no way you could have prepared for the outcome of your choices in The Sinnerman side job.

The side job has you help a husband avenge the murder of his wife, but one thing leads to another, and if you made all the right choices, you could help the murderer, Joshua Stephenson, repent for his crimes in his own way. There’s a bit of running around involved, but it eventually culminates in Stephenson deciding that his penance is to be crucified on live TV, shown in a rather graphic cutscene.

Not Everyone At CDPR Was Okay With How Sinnerman Ended Up

Speaking toGamesRadar+, Cyberpunk 2077 senior quest designer Philipp Weber said that the studio would not have gone ahead with it if it didn’t feel like it was saying something important. It arose during a conversation about the tenth anniversary of The Witcher 3, where Weber talked about The Bloody Baron questline, and the consequences of our choices.

“We look at the emotional strength of that quest, and this is something we like to hit,” he said. However, what’s more important is “to have the knowledge that you can afford to touch subjects that are very difficult.”

He continued to say “that quest in Cyberpunk also had people in the studio who had problems with it.” Despite how some devs felt, CDPR wasn’t doing it just to be “showy”. He noted that “there’s an actual interesting question we want to delve into.”

“I would say that if you never have that discussion, you’re probably not making art, if there’s never a question of ‘maybe we actually have to be brave, dive deeper’,” he continued. “Maybe there’s something that could also touch people the wrong way. Are we ready to do that? And I think, you know, those are discussions that we have to this day, but I think it’s important to have them, because otherwise you’re never able to do something like this.”
