Summary
Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel isin development. Right now, it’s only known as Project Orion, and we’re years away from being able to play it. However, it’s in active development, so much so that Cyberpunk’s creator, Mike Pondsmith, has something to say about it.
According to Pondsmith, the next Cyberpunk game is taking us to at least two cities. Unsurprisingly, one of them will be Night City, making a grand return from Cyberpunk 2077. But there will also be a second city that we get to explore, that Pondsmith explains is like “Chicago gone wrong”.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Sequel Will Have A City That’s Less Blade Runner, More Chicago
This was reported byCD-Action, who spotted this during Pondsmith’stalkat Digital Dragons 2025.
“There’s another city we visit, I’m not telling you anymore than that, but there’s another city we visit,” says Pondsmith. “Night City is still there, but I remember looking at it going, yeah, I understand what you’re going for. This really does work. And it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong.”

Last year, players started to spot posters in the game thatadvertised transport between Night City and Chicago, so this new location could actually be Chicago itself. These posters said “coming in 2080”, which could be when the game is set - hopefully not when the sequel launches.
On top of all of this, Pondsmith adds that he probably won’t be as involved with Orion as he was with 2077. However, he says that he has a designer representing the tabletop team who will communicate withCDPRinstead, so there should still be some continuity there. He also occasionally checks in on the team, hence his feedback about this new city.

While we’ll be waiting a while for Project Orion, CDPR only just wrapped up development on 2077. The final update dropped last December, expanding character customisation and photo mode, as well as a few other features. Cyberpunk 2077 will also launch on the Switch 2, and willactually have the full game on the cartridge, unlikemany other Switch 2 games.
