In a separate thread, fans discussed how the game is seemingly underrated, with enough “bones” to warrant a potential sequel. “It’s one of those games that just resonated perfectly with me, even though I know it’s not an overall great game,“one gamer wrote.
“Yes. I need to know (what) is going on with O’Brien. IYKYK,“another player wrote. Without spoiling anything, the game does end on a significant cliffhanger that would be ripe for a sequel.
Elsewhere,a fan recognized its split audience while also recognizing the potential of the title, writing, “This is a very polarizing game, it seems. Personally, I’d love to see a sequel. I hope the remaster sold well enough for them to consider it.”
A Sequel Was Pitched But Turned Down
Back in 2021,it was reported that Days Gone 2 was pitched by Bend Studio, though it was ultimately rejected. Had the sequel gone into production,it would have featured a “shared universe with co-op play.”
At one point,a petition for a sequel crossed over 100,000 signatures from fans. In 2022,director John Ross claimed that the game had achieved over 8 million copies sold, though that wasn’t true. Later that same year,the game’s creative director blamed poor critical reception on “woke reviewers.”
Earlier this year,it was revealed that Bend Studio was working on a live-service project that has since been canceled. Still,its community manager said that the studio was still making “cool sh*t.“Whether a sequel does end up happening is up in the air, though fan interest has noticeably been renewed.
