Summary

There have been a lot of talking points coming out ofNintendo’sSwitch 2Direct, chief among them how much it plans to charge for the new console’s games. While some titles will be $70,others, including Mario Kart World, will be $80, possibly even as much as $90 if you want a physical copy. However, early listings suggest some third-party retailers won’t be following Nintendo’s lead.

Even though you can’t pre-order Switch 2’s revealed games yet, listings are starting to pop up.Jon Cartwrightshared screenshots of listings forDonkey Kong BananzaandTears Of The Kingdom’s Switch 2 editions in Europe, both of which have been priced at 60 euros. Tears Of The Kingdom’s Switch 2 edition will reportedly beone of three upgraded Switch games that will cost $80in the US, along withKirby and the Forgotten LandandSuper Mario Party Jamboree. Even if, along with Bananza, Nintendo plans to try and sell those upgraded games for 80 euros in Europe, a drop to 60 euros when bought through a third-party retailer is quite the discount.

Nintendo Will Charge $80 For Some Of Its First-Party Switch 2 Games

But That Doesn’t Mean Everybody Else Will

Nintendo doesn’t appear to have revealed how much its newly revealed Switch 2 games are going to cost in the UK yet, but that hasn’t stoppedGame from creating store pagesfor all four of the OG Switch games confirmed to be getting Switch 2 upgrades. All of them have been priced at £66.99 by the retailer which, as it stands, feels like less than Nintendo will be charging. At the very least, the $80 will likely be £69.99, though that naturally can’t be confirmed until Nintendo reveals its pricing plans.

ShopTo appears to be the only major UK retailer with listings forMario Kart Worldand Bananaza already live, and while the site is known for selling new games for less, it too seems to have looked at Nintendo’s Switch 2 game prices and decided to go in a different direction. ShopTo is sellingphysical copies of Mario Kart World for £74.99, andBananza’s physical edition for £67.

Nintendo is clearly seeing what it can get away with here, but it’s still a little shocking to see it leapfrog the $70 threshold that became an industry standard midway through the Switch’s run. Nintendo only gave in to temptation once on the original Switch, bumping the price up to $70 for Tears of the Kingdom and nothing else. To breeze right past that and go straight to $80 for some games, and maybe even $90, will really test what people are willing to pay for Nintendo’s top-tier first-party games.
