Summary

Dragon Age: The Veilguardwas the first game in the series that quite a few returning characters sat out.Alistair,Leliana,Cullen- none of them could appear because the ability to transfer many of our choices over was scrapped. However, there is one character who could have appeared, tying the series together nicely, but just didn’t.

Well, that’s not strictly true. I am referring toFlemeth, who, as we later found out, was actually the host of a fragment ofMythal. This means that, technically, Mythal appeared in every game - and has eveninteracted with every single protagonist. But there was one thing missing from Mythal’s appearance: a performance from Kate Mulgrew.

Mulgrew voiced Flemeth inDragon Age: Origins,Dragon Age 2, andDragon Age: Inquisition. She was killed at the very end of Inquisition, with The Veilguard revealing that the fragment of Mythal was then passed onto her daughter, Morrigan. Despite this, fans think The Veilguard needed a cameo from Mulgrew, considering how big of a role she has played in the series.

Dragon Age Fans Missed Kate Mulgrew In The Veilguard

A post in the Dragon Age subreddit about The Veilguard’s lack of Mulgrew is getting a whole lot of attention, as it seems that many fans were hoping to hear something from the much-beloved actor.

“I get why they didn’t use her […] but she’s so iconic and wonderful,” says Reddit user Team-Mako-N7. “The new Mythal voice just didn’t have the same impact.”

Many others agree. “I think the intention was Kate Mulgrew was finished after DAI […] and it makes sense given Kate was Flemeth’s voice rather than Mythal’s. But I’m still sad because she was an amazing voice actor for the role and she brought the character to life,” writes Vtots3.

“I kept expecting her to show up at some point,” says bigfaceless. “I guess Mythal does, but it isn’t the same.”

Yoda_Seagulls agrees: “It simply wasn’t the same without Kate Mulgrew’s voice and line delivery.”

If you want to play the older games that Mulgrew appeared in, they’re all readily available to purchase on modern hardware. You can still use the Dragon Age Keep to transfer your decisions over into Dragon Age: Inquisition too -for as long as that service stays online, anyway.
