Summary

Earlier this week, it was confirmed byElden Ring publisher Bandai Namcothat A24 and director Alex Garland areofficially working on a live-action movie adaptation, following a few weeks of speculation and intense rumors. Understandably, there was quite a lot of skepticism, especially over the potential of the director and howElden Ring’splot could even be adapted into a live-action movie.

We know that Alex Garland has some pretty good stuff under his belt, having been involved with movies like Civil War and the upcoming 28 Years Later, but his involvement in video games is a bit spotty. DmC Devil May Cry and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West are the only two games that Garland has worked on in the past, and while they have their fans, they’re not exactly FromSoftware level quality.

Elden Ring Live-Action Movie Director Alex Garland Is Actually A Massive Fan Of The Game

Fortunately, it seems as though Garland doesn’t have to binge VaatiVidya videos too much, as it turns out, he’s actually a pretty big fan of the game.In a recently discovered Reddit AMAthat Garland was involved in a couple of months ago (thanks GamesRadar), he reveals thathe’s played a truly ridiculous amount of Shadow of the Erdtree, and that he “[couldn’t] seem to stop playing”.

In fact, I wager that Garland has done something that not many Elden Ring players have actually done, as he claimed to have managed to reach NG+6 in Shadow of the Erdtree, and that he doesn’t “even want to think about the hours I’ve clocked up”. That’s a lot of commitment, and a pretty good assurance that Garland will at least attempt to do Elden Ring some justice.

The Erdtree in Elden Ring

It’s definitely nice to see when a director is a fan of the game they’re adapting, and while it may not guarantee quality, it definitely doesn’t hurt. For example,Fallout director Jonathan Nolan admitted that Fallout 3 “devoured about a year of my life”, and look how good that series turned out. Elden Ring is definitely in good hands, so fingers crossed it ends up being another adaptation success story.
