Summary
Toys to Life were a once popular medium of turning your regular old toys into something that had a digital presence. From the likes of Skylanders to Ubisoft’s ill-fated Starlink: Battle For Atlas, few have managed to have the same staying power as Nintendo’samiibo. Usually a fairly simple pose taken direct from a game, they are also cross-functional.
Your Zelda amiibo can work not only in multiple Zelda games, but almost any game with amiibo functionality. And that has spurned many people who are no Nintendo to get in on creating some amiibo too. And there are quite a few. So let’s check out every amiibo there is that isn’t made by Nintendo itself.

For the sake of brevity, amiibo have been categorised by the series they come from, rather than listed individually.
20Pac-Man
Pac-Man
Released back in 2015 for his inclusion in Smash, Pac-Man as a character is almost older than the vast majority of Nintendo games. Other than his role in Smash, Pac Man’s amiibo doesn’t have too many unique functions.
But hey, maybe we’ll get a new amiibo featuring his morerecent dark incarnation?

19Shovel Knight
Shovel, Plague, Specter, And King Knight
Initially released as just the Shovel Knight in 2016, an extra trio of Shovel Knight amiibo were released in 2019. This included the exceedingly rare gold version of the original Shovel Knight amiibo
Using the Shovel Knight amiibo in any Shovel Knight games would unlock new outfits and other gameplay bonsues.

18Street Fighter
Ryu, Ken, Luke, Jamie, And Kimberly
Originally, Ryu was released in 2016 to celebrate the inclusion of his character being added to Smash. This was later followed up by a Ken amiibo in 2019 after his inclusion in Smash Ultimate.
With Street Fighter 6 now on the way to Switch 2, new amiibo hasve been made for Luke, Jamie, and Kimberly, and the original Ryu and Ken amiibo will be compatible with the game as well.

17Mega Man
Mega Man
There are two standard Mega Man amiibo. One was made back in 2015 for his place in Smash, and another was released in 2018 as a refresh, once again for Smash.
However, there also a gold version of the 2015 Mega Man amiibo released in 2016 which could unlock new challenges in the Mega Man Legacy Collection, and isone of the rarest amiiboto this day.

16Sonic
Sonic
Released in 2015 to celebrate his place in Smash, the Sonic amiibo ironically enough has no function in any of the Sonic games available on any Nintendo platform.
However, it does have the rather unique trait of unlocking a unique outfit for Mii racers when used in Mario Kart 8.

15Final Fantasy 7
Cloud And Sephiroth
The inclusion of Final Fantasy in Smash has always been funny, with Square Enix being quite stingy on it. After Cloud was added to Smash, he eventually got two amiibo in 2017, based on his original FF7 appearance, and that of Advent Children.
Sephiroth’s amiibo followed up much more quickly, releasing in 2023. Neither have unique functions outside of Smash, but at least they’re together.

14Bayonetta
Bayonetta
Even though Bayonetta has become very closely linked with Nintendo, the company doesn’t fully own the rights to it, and the Bayonetta amiibo exist as a celebration of her place in Smash, rather than her own games.
Ironically, Nintendo amiibo unlock unique outfits in Bayonetta 1 and 2, whereas Bayonetta’s own amiibo only give generic items.

13Dark Souls
Solaire
When the Dark Souls remaster was finally revealed, it marked the first entry in the series on a Nintendo platform, and with a special bonus - a Solaire amiibo.
Aside from being a very fun amiibo, it also gave early access to the ‘Praise the Sun’ emote in-game.

12Diablo
Loot Goblin
The Loot Goblin is one of the most fascinating amiibo, because it was both sold only through Gamestop, and did not have the typical amiibo packaging. This made it quite rare in general, but especially outside of the US.
When used, it opened up a portal that let you travel to an area called the Vault with lots of treasure.

11Metal Gear Solid
Snake
Despite Metal Gear Solid 1 getting a GameCube remake and Metal Gear Solid 3 getting a 3DS port, the only amiibo that has ever been made of the series has been this one for Snake’s place in Smash.
And beyond that, the amiibo provides no unique effects outside of Smash, either.
