Several Minecraft YouTubers were seen at the storage sale scene of the movie. Specifically, you can see DanTDM (Daniel Robert Middleton), Aphmau (Jessica Bravura), Mumbo Jumbo (Oli Brotherhood), and LDShadowLady (Elizabeth “Lizzie” Dwyer).
Valkyrae (Rachell Marie Hofstetter) was originally meant to make a cameo in A Minecraft Movie, but her screentime was ultimately cut.
The YouTubers did not have any speaking lines and were in the background, but the aura made it impossible not to notice them.
7Minecraft Developer Makes Cameo As A Waiter
During the part of the movie where Vice Principal Marlene (Jennifer Coolidge) goes on a date with a Minecraft villager, they are served by Jens Bergensten. For those who don’t know, Bergensten is one of the lead designers for Minecraft.
Fans of the video game mostly know him as Jeb. When he isn’t waiting tables on iconic dates, he serves as the chief creative officer of Mojang Studios and makes frequent appearances on Minecraft Live.
6Mojang Creative Director Makes Surprise Cameo
If you think Jeb is the only Mojang figurehead to make a cameo, then you’re wrong! Torfi Frans Ólafsson, the senior creative director of Minecraft for Microsoft, also makes a cameo!
During the latter part of the film, Ólafsson is seen as one of the students in Natalie’s (Emma Myers) self-defense class. Besides his cameo, he also worked as one of the film’s producers. He joined the team to ensure the movie would be a faithful adaption of the video game.
5Matt Berry Plays A Minecraft Villager
Speaking of the Minecraft villager Marlene goes on a date with, the character is actually voiced by Matt Berry. The villager, named Nitwit, wanders into the real world through a magic portal and is hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Marlene.
While Nitwit originally sounds like, well, a nitwit, he actually shows off his intelligent side in the film. After Marlene is harassed by her ex-husband, Nitwit defends her by explaining how their love came to be.
4Did You Notice Herobrine?
It seems the team behind A Minecraft Movie really did their research. They even included a short nod to the urban legend Herobrine. This scene might fly over the heads of those who aren’t that invested in Minecraft’s lore, but those who love the lore would appreciate the reference.
Herobrine is a Minecraft creepypasta. It is a character that looks like Steve, but has white eyes with no pupils.
During Henry’s (Sebastian Hansen) nightmare scene, the cast members are seen with purple eyes, similar to an Enderman. However, Steve’s are white, just like Herobrine.
3Kate MicKinnon Makes An Uncredited Cameo
If you stay for the post-credits scene, you’ll hear the voice of Kate McKinnon! She plays the role of Alex, a Minecraft character who lives with Steve. While the voice of Alex is known to be McKinnon’s, we don’t actually see the actress herself.
In the post-credits scene, Steve is seen returning to his childhood home. There, he meets a ginger-haired woman named Alex. It is likely that if A Minecraft Movie sequel were to happen, Alex would play an integral part.
2A Minecraft Movie Director Voices A Popular Character
You might know Jared Hess as the director of A Minecraft Movie. But did you know he also voices a popular character in the film? Jared Hess takes on the role of General Chungus, a high-ranking piglin in Malgosha’s army.
Despite being part of Malgosha’s army, General Chungus is actually nice. He does just as he is told in fear of being killed. He means well, but sadly doesn’t have a great ending.
1A Minecraft Movie Honors Technoblade
In 2022, beloved Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade sadly passed away following a battle with cancer. This was heartbreaking for the Minecraft community, who loved his personality, mentality, and videos. To honor Technoblade, A Minecraft Movie dedicated a scene to honor him.
In one scene, the cast comes across a pig wearing a golden crown. When Henry asks if it’s some kind of king, Steve (Jack Black) responds by saying, “No. That’s a legend.” A pig wearing a golden crown was Technoblade’s Minecraft skin and his icon on social media.
