Currency is an all-encompassing term inPath of Exile 2that essentially boils down to the items you use to improve your gear. These range from items that add additional modifiers to your armour, to Runes that you’re able to slot into your gear.
There are tons of different types of Currency in the game, and keeping track of them all can get overwhelming. Below, we’ll take a look at every Currency item in PoE2, and what it does.
Every Currency Item And What It Does

Effect
Gold
Used to buy items from vendors and respec the Passive Tree.
Identifies an item.
Orb of Transmuatation
Upgrades a Normal item to a Magic item with 1 additional Modifier.
Augments a Magic item with an additional random Modifier.
Orb of Alchemy
Upgrades a Normal item to a Rare item with 4 additional Modifiers.
Regal Orb
Upgrades a Magic item to a Rare item with 1 additional Modifier.
Chaos Orb
Removes a random Modifier and Augments a Rare item with a new random Modifier.
Randomly Modifies an item and Corrupts it.
Removes a random Modifier from an item.
Orb of Chance
Randomly upgrades a Normal item to a Unique item, or destroys it.
Fracturing Orb
‘Fractures’ a random Modifier on an item that has at least 4 Modifiers, locking it in place so that it can’t be Modified.
Creates a copy of a non-Unique item.
Currency Shards
Currency Shards can be earned from salvaging items, and willautomatically combine into their usable versionwhen you get ten of them.
Combine 10 into an Orb of Chance
Combine 10 into an Artificer’s Orb.
Socket Currencies
These Currency items are used to eitheradd Sockets to Support Gemsor gear, or areput into those same Sockets.
Lesser Jeweller’s Orb
Adds a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem with 2 Support Gem Sockets.
Greater Jeweller’s Orb
Adds a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem with 3 Support Gem Sockets.
Perfect Jeweller’s Orb
Adds a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem with 4 Support Gem Sockets.
Artificer’s Orb
Adds a Socket to a Martial Weapon, Wand, Staff, or Armour.
Runes
Provide a variety of different effects when slotted into Weapons or Armour.
Soul Cores
Similar to Runes; can be Socketed into an item to provide a variety of stats.
Talismans
Similar to Runes; can be Socketed into a specific type of item to provide a stat.
Quality Currencies
These Currenciesincrease the Quality of the item. Each point of Qualityincreases the item’s main attribute by one percent. For example, one percent of Quality on a Martial Weapon increases its Physical Damage by one percent.
Increases the Quality of a Wand, Staff, or Sceptre.
Increases the Quality of a Flask.
Essence Currencies
Essences work similarly to Orbs. These willupgrade a Normal item to Magic rarity, adding aspecific type of Modifierin the process.
Upgrades a Normal item to Magic with 1 Attack Modifier.
Essence of Delirium
Upgrades a Normal item to Magic or Magic to Rare with 1 random Notable Passive. Can only be used on Body Armour.
Upgrades a Normal item to Magic with 1 Speed Modifier.
Essence of Horror
Adds the suffix 100% increased effect of Socketed Items to the item. Can only be used on Gloves or Boots.
Essence of Hysteria
Upgrades a Normal item to Magic with 1 item Rarity Modifier. Can only be used on Helmets, Rings, or Amulets.
Upgrades a Normal item to Magic with 1 Cold Modifier.
Essence of Insanity
Adds the suffix On Corruption, item gains two Enchantments. Can only be used on Belts.

Catalyst Currencies
Catalysts add a special type of Quality to an item thatenhances a specific Modifier.
Adaptive Catalyst
Adds Quality that enhances Attribute Modifiers on a Ring or Amulet. Replaces other Quality types.
Carapace Catalyst
Adds Quality that enhances Defence Modifiers on a Ring or Amulet. Replaces other Quality types.
Chayula’s Catalyst
Adds Quality that enhances Chaos Modifiers on a Ring or Amulet. Replaces other Quality types.
Esh’s Catalyst
Adds Quality that enhances Lightning Modifiers on a Ring or Amulet. Replaces other Quality types.
Flesh Catalyst
Adds Quality that enhances Life Modifiers on a Ring or Amulet. Replaces other Quality types.
Neural Catalyst
Adds Quality that enhances Mana Modifiers on a Ring or Amulet. Replaces other Quality types.
Reaver Catalyst
Adds Quality that enhances Attack Modifiers on a Ring or Amulet. Replaces other Quality types.

Distilled Emotions
Distilled Emotions are a type of currency that can be used toAnoint an Amulet, granting itNotable Passive Skills, or they can be used toadd Delerium Effects to your Waystones, adding additional layers of rewards.

Omen Currencies
Omens are a special type of Currency thataren’t used directly, but are insteadconsumed from your inventory when their effect is triggered.
Omen of Amelioration
While this item is in your inventory, prevents 75% of experience loss when you die.
Omen of Answered Prayers
While this item is in your inventory, the next shrine you activate will grant an additional effect.
Omen of Corruption
While this item is in your inventory, your next Vaal Orb will be more unpredicatble.
Omen of Dextral Alchemy
While this item is in your inventory, your next Orb of Alchemy will produce the maximum number of Suffix Modifiers.
Omen of Dextral Annulment
While this item is in your inventory, your next Orb of Annulment will remove only Suffix Modifiers.
Omen of Dextral Coronation
While this item is in your inventory, your next Regal Orb will add only Suffix Modifiers.
Omen of Dextral Erasure
While this item is in your inventory, your next Chaos Orb will remove only Suffix Modifiers.

While this item is in your inventory, you will fully recover your Flask and Charm Charges when reaching low life.
