Part of the reason why the narrative ofClair Obscur: Expedition 33is so engaging is thanks to the fantastic voice work. Almost every line of dialogue is voiced, and it makes staying immersed in the events of the game effortless.
While Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 utilizes plenty of well-known and experienced voice actors, there are just as many characters who are voiced by actors who have only had a couple of voice roles beforehand. So, who are the voices behind the main cast of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

8Esquie
Voiced By Maxence Cazorla
Even though Esquie doesn’t join the main party members in battle, the mythical creature is just as much a part of the group thanks to his role as their mode of transportation, as well as a reassuring, if not terminally lazy, presence for the other members of the team.
Esquie’s uniqueness isn’t limited to just his in-game role, but also how he’s voiced. He’s the only characterto share an English and French voice actor in Maxence Cazorla, and while Maxence doesn’t have too much experience as a voice actor, he is experienced in motion capture, taking on the roles of Gustave, Verso, and Renoir for this position.

7Monoco
Voiced By Rich Keeble
While most of the adorable Gestrals have an interesting, yet mostly incomprehensible way of speaking, Monoco immediately stands out from the rest after his introduction, thanks to being incredibly well-spoken.
The final main party member, and Nevron leg-collector, is voiced by Rich Keeble. This is one of Keeble’s most prominent roles in a video game. For reference, his previous role was the beloved Board Member #3 from Split Fiction. However, Keeble is better known for his work in front of the camera, his most popular role being Mr. Arnold from Good Omens.

6Verso
Voiced By Ben Starr
When Verso is introduced right at the end of the first act of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, it’s clear that he’s going to be of monumental importance to the plot, and thankfully, he’s got the voice talent fit for the mantle.
Played by Ben Starr, if you’re a fan of RPGs, you might recognize him from the role that arguably brought the voice actor to the forefront, Clive, the protagonist of Final Fantasy 16. More recently, Starr has voiced Khazan in First Berserker, Promestheus in Hades 2, and cosplayed as the Balatro Joker at the BAFTAs.

5Renoir
Voiced By Andy Serkis
Upon meeting Renoir at the beginning of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s first act, his aura is palpable, and his threat level is immediately proven. We don’t actually get to hear the antagonist talk until a little later, but there’s a good chance he’ll sound familiar.
Andy Serkis has been voice acting for decades, but is most recently known for his portrayal of Snoke in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Caesar in the Planet of the Apes trilogy, and even on screen as Alfred in The Batman. However, his most popular role is as the voice of Gollum.

4Sciel
Voiced By Shala Nyx
The last member of the original Expedition 33 to rejoin the party, Sciel is by far the most light-hearted member of the group, without ever feeling like too much of a tone-killer. While there are some moments where she takes a backseat narratively, her moments to shine are some of thehighlights of the whole story.
Originating in theater, Sciel is Shala Nyx’s most prominent voice role in a video game to date. Some of her notable characters include Carlorina the Wolf from Baldur’s Gate 3, Bess Law from Banisher’s Ghost of New Eden, and Farida Nazeri from Cyberpunk 2077.

3Lune
Voiced By Kirsty Rider
Lune isa stand-out cast memberof Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, thanks to her effortless chemistry with the rest of the party members and distinct personality. Being the first party member to join Gustave, her dynamic with him carries the early hours of the game.
Surprisingly, this is only Kirsty Rider’s second role in a video game, with her first being Kuroki, the third boss in Sifu, and a character who doesn’t happen to have that many lines either. She’s more well-known for her one-off roles in TV series like Call The Midwife, Peacock, and The Sandman, but her earliest role was as a recurring child cast member in a late-2000s kids' show, Space Pirates.

2Maelle
Voiced By Jennifer English
While Gustave is positioned as the protagonist of Clair Obscur, throughout the game, it starts to feel like the role is more suited to Maelle, thanks to her being the emotional core of the story, as well as one of the more intriguing characters.
Voiced by Jennifer English, while she’s known for her voice work, she’s only had a handful of roles in video games. These include Carlotta in Wuthering Waves, Latenna in Elden Ring, but by far her most popular role has been Shadowheart from Baldur’s Gate 3.

1Gustave
Voiced By Charlie Cox
As soon as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 begins, Gustave’s emotional depth is made clear thanks to the gut-wrenching events of the Prologue. Moving forward, he’s a perfect protagonist, able to carry scenes by himself or with a full party.
Interestingly enough, 2025 is Charlie Cox’s debut year for his voice work, having only previously worked in front of the camera. Most well-known for portraying Daredevil since the 2015 TV series started, he’s appeared as the character in series like The Defenders and She-Hulk, even cameoed in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and even his only other voice role, just so happens to be Daredevil in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
