WithXenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Editionbeing such a big game, it’s no surprise it has such a massive amount of content. Mira is a big planet with lots to see and do. Though with plenty of quests having different endings depending on your choices, it may leave you wondering if there is certain content that you can lose access to permanently.

And the answer to that is yes. While there isn’t much that is permanently missable, there is still a decent handful that would require a whole new playthrough to unlock if you do miss it. So here’s everything that can be missed, from items to missions, and how best to avoid losing access to them.

Due to the nature of this article, there will besome mild spoilers for the gamethroughout.

Every Piece Of Missable Content

Due to the massive variety of content on display in Xenoblade Chronicles X, we’re going to split each major piece of missable content into a category of its own. This should make it easier to see exactly what you’re at risk of missing and hone in on it. So let’s get into it.

Companion Content

When it comes to your companions, there is no content from any companion you can miss except for Lao. All heart-to-hearts, affinity missions and everything else will always be available regardless of where you might find yourself in the game.

Since Lao’s status as a party members changes with the game, you will eventually lose access to him, and as a result any content related to him. The one exception to this ishis Affinity Missions, which must be completed to progress the story. This ensures you will always unlock his two Signature Arts for your own character.

However, all of his heart-to-hearts are permanently missable, so verify to raise his affinity to the max early on.Lao leaves the party after Chapter Nineand does not return, so make sure to see everything he has before then.

All of the equipment on Lao will be taken with him until you finish Doug’s final heart-to-heart after completing Chapter 12, so verify tounequip any equipment you want to keep beforehandso you don’t have to wait for it to be returned to you.

Items

When it comes to items, such as Skell equipment and armour and weapons for your characters, there isvery little that can be permanently missed, especially any that are of use. However, if you are a completionist who likes to have one of every single item, there are some key items to look out for.

Here are all the items that can be missed, and how to get them:

Sparkjet Rifle

During the ‘What The Skell?!’ mission.

Is destroyed no matter what as part of the mission.Works similarly to the Ramjet Riflefrom the ‘Weaponized’ Affinity Mission.

Unbreakable Sword

During ‘The Unbreakable Sword’ mission.

Choose to acceptthe Unbreakable Sword as a reward for retrieving it.

Hundred Devil Sword

During ‘The Duel (Part IV)’ mission.

Choose the option ‘Rejoice’, and then follow this up with ‘Accept’ to get the sword. Any other choices will have you permanently lose it.

L-Cannon, A-Spear, F-Arrow

From destroying the weapon appendage on Caladar enemies.

These enemies only appear in certain quests, making the Skell weapons permanently missable.Make a save beforehandif you don’t get the item drop.

Busted Skell Armor

Defeat certain enemies (No-dhor, the Shadowcaster, Molybdenum Xe-dom) that can drop Meredith and Co. Skell Armor.

Once you complete Chapter Four,Busted Skell Armor will no longer drop, making the pieces inaccessible.

AS0115 Formula XT Skell

Used during the “A Girl’s Wings” Affinity Mission.

Is returned at the end of the mission. Any equippedAugments are returned to you.

In the original version, any weapons you equipped to the AS0115 Formula XT during the mission werepermanently lost upon completion.

Other than these items, all other sources remain available across the entire game, allowing you to access them permanently.

Mutually Exclusive Quests

Though there aren’t a massive amount, there is a small host of missions in the game that are eitherexclusively unlocked based on certain choices you make, or are mutually exclusive of one another and would require a second playthrough to see all of them. Here are all of those quests:

In the case of City Saviors, only the initial quest contributes to your Survey Rate. A Painful Lesson does not, andits rewards are only credits and EXP, meaning nothing permanent is lost other than the quest itself.

For Definian Downfall, while your choice impacts the subsequent quest you get, the rewards are almost identical, withFortun and Glory offering slightly more credits and EXP. They both lead to the same subsequent quests as well, meaning the following content will be unlocked regardless of the choice you make.

Other than these, every quest remains available for the entirety of the game, or you will be asked to complete them in advance for certain story missions, such as Lao’s Affinity Missions and the Manhunt Affinity Mission that involves a supposed sighting of Ryyz and Dagahn.

Online Content

With the shutdown of online services of the Wii U, this rendered lots of online content from the original game inaccessible. This included all forms of Squad Missions, as well as the inability to acquire additional Reward Tickets. This has been changed in the Definitive Edition. Reward Tickets are now called Material Tickets, and aregiven to you daily whether you play online or not.

Because of this, rare items, such as those dropped from enemies in Online Missions and the Global Nemeses, will be accessible even after the online services of the Definitive Edition are inevitably shutdown throughthe Material Market, which can still be accessed offline.

That said, when online services do eventually shut down, it will make it much harder to acquire some of these materials to the slow method of acquiring more material tickets, andit is possible the Global Nemeses will no longer be able to be fought either.

Does Any Missable Content Affect Your Survey Rate?

Thankfully, no.The vast majority of missable content is excluded from the Survey Rate, whether this is Lao’s heart-to-hearts, or missable and mutually exclusive quests. The only exception to this is Lao’s hangout spot. Every hangout spot contributes to the Survey Rate, and Lao’s can be missed. All you need to do to complete it is to chat with him, and it completes whether or not you add him to your party.

That said, if you did miss it, it willautomatically complete after you finish Chapter 11and learn of Lao’s fate. At this point, it will be completed as soon as the chapter ends since he is no longer present.

Aside from that, literallynothing else that can be missed contributes to the Survey Rate. So rest assured that no matter how far through the game you progress or the choice you make, you can always achieve 100% Survey Rate.

Because Survey Rate is determined by completed Segments, thenew content involving Neilnail and Liesel does not contribute towards Survey Rateeither.
