Summary

EVO Japan finals took place a couple of days ago, and to say that there was a bit of controversy would be an understatement. Despite there being a few problems during the event, complaints surrounding overheating PS5s really kicked off when Victor Woodley (more commonly known as Punk) blamed the PS5 for his defeat in theFatal Fury: City of Wolvestournament.

Punk claimed that he had issues with his controller mid-match, which caused the defeat, and then took to Twitter to vent, going as far as to say in a now-deleted tweet that he would “personally stop attending tournaments” if the issue wasn’t addressed. His reasoning is that he shouldn’t have the outcome of a set be out of his control after “tons of hours practicing, traveling, spending money to go to these events”.

EVO Japan Finals Seemingly Ruined By Overheating PS5s

Twitter being Twitter, many dismissed Punk’s complaints as him being a “sore loser"and went about their day, only for the issue to rear its head once again at the Guilty Gear Strive grand finals.A Twitter user called Dany El Mazawas able to record footage of a finals fight between RedDitto and Daru, in which RedDitto stopped moving after being pressured in the corner.

The fight was then seemingly paused mid-match to figure out the problem, during which RedDitto claimed thatthe overheating PS5 was “melting” his controller’s adapter. Eventually, the problem was fixed afteranother fighting game player called Tiger_Poplet RedDitto borrow his adapter, but he did eventually go on to lose the fight in controversial fashion.
