Final Fantasy 14’snew Cosmic Exploration content is finally here, providing that casual, grindy content that less dedicated players have been pining for ever since Dawntrail released last year. Lots of people will have grabbed their pickaxe, scythe, and crafting tool of choice and headed to the moon, but a lot of people are finding out that only disappointment was waiting for them.
You see, Cosmic Exploration was intended to be a joint project for every player across a server,almost like a team-bonding exercise. Everyone was meant to head to the moon and contribute to its development, whether it be via crafting or gathering. It was a cute idea, but it also seems to have been poorly executed, as the work was done so quickly that many have been left behind.
Final Fantasy 14 Fans Are Frustrated With How Quickly Cosmic Exploration Was Completed
Due to Cosmic Exploration progression being server-wide, a lot of people that were either asleep or at work when Patch 7.21 dropped have logged in to find out that they’ve missed out on development.Reddit user Onvyran was one such player, who got home from work and found out that they couldn’t contribute to progression, and that they’d missed phase transitions.
It’s not an uncommon story either. One fan called the content “casual unfriendly”, while another called EasterViera says they “shouldn’t have to use PTO to enjoy my game.” There are some people saying the stuff people missed out on wasn’t that big, and that cutscenes can be viewed again,but another post from a user called YourGuyRyesays the excuse isn’t good enough, and the current system is “abysmal”.
Personally, I slept through the entire thing, so I can relate to people being disappointed that they weren’t able to contribute, especially those that enjoy the crafting/gathering side of the game more than I do. Thankfully, more stages are coming every week, and more stars throughout the Patch 7.X series, so hopefully Square Enix can tweak how much work is needed to progress, so everybody can feel like they contributed.
