“We’re excited and also a little nervous to welcome even more players into the world of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad and hear what you think,” says game director Hyunil Jang. “The development team will continue doing our best to improve the game and stay closely connected with your feedback.”
Some changes have already been confirmedin response to this feedback. Future updates should allow you to earn more RP, which is what you need to access certain tasks in-game. They are also looking into adding more activities you can do without RP, so you’re not locked out of playing when you run out.
Ever since early access started, reviews onSteamhave been mixed. While many are enjoying gameplay and see the game’s potential, there are numerous complaints about the monetisation, with some arguing that Kingsroad just has too many of the hallmarks of a mobile game. That monetisation doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, even if it’s made slightly less egregious, with more to do if you aren’t paying.
At the very least, the full launch will be free-to-play. Early access was not, requiring players to pick up one of the Founder’s Packs to play ahead of time.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is launching on mobile as well as PC. It has been available on mobile throughout early access too, showing that this is indeed a priority for developer and publisher Netmarble. There’s no word on when, or if, Kingsroad will come to console, so this may remain the strategy going forward.
