Summary

Reputable leaker Tez2 claims that a “modern gen"GTA 4port is in development and could even launch later this year.

This is supposedly part of a plan “laid out from the pandemic days”, which, if still accurate, means thatMax Payne 3will be ported to current-gen consolesafterGTA 4. There’s not much else to go off of, but there might be evidence of this remaster in Rockstar’s recent actions.

Tez2 allegedthat the Liberty City Preservation Project,a fan-led effort to recreate GTA 4’s map within GTA 5, was taken down earlier this year in part because Rockstar is planning its own return to the iconic NYC-inspired metropolis. Fans have speculated as much for months now, and by the end of 2025, they might be proven right.

The GTA 6 Confirmed Lucia Is From Liberty City, So Now’s The Perfect Time To Return To GTA 4

“Ben”, or@videotechuk_ on Twitter, who regularly covers Rockstar news and leaks, speculates that the remaster’s release might be timed to coincide with GTA 6’s launch because Lucia is from Liberty City.

This was confirmed on the official website afterthe surprise release of the second trailer: “More than anything, Lucia wants the good life her mom has dreamed of since their days in Liberty City - but instead of half-baked fantasies, Lucia is prepared to take matters into her own hands.”

“It would make sense since Lucia was born and raised in Liberty City,” Ben said. “A remaster could attract younger players who haven’t experienced GTA 4, especially after they finish GTA 6.”

We’ve seen a litany of remasters and ports from Rockstar of late, from the infamous Grand Theft Auto trilogy to the long-awaited Red Dead Redemption PC release, so the next logical stepisGTA 4. In the meantime, if you have an inkling about returning to Liberty City and don’t want to wait for maybes, it’s backwards compatible on Xbox One and Series, and you can play it on PC via Steam (if you’re ready to navigate through the outdated Games for Windows Live mess).
