Summary

By this point, it’s clear thatGrand Theft 5has seen its fair share of re-releases and ports. Of course, the game first came out on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 way back in 2013.

Then,a year later, the game was then brought forwardto thePlayStation 4andXbox Onein a more enhanced version. Flash forward to 2022,and the game was ported once more, this time toPlayStation 5andXbox Serieshardware. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, back in March, GTA 5 Enhanced Edition came to PC, thoughthat upgrade wasn’t nearly as well-received.

The only place where Grand Theft Auto 5 isn’t available is theNintendo Switch, and, who knows, that could changeas Take-Two affirmed its support for the Switch 2 in early February. If all of that wasn’t bonkers enough, then wait until you hear about just how many units GTA 5 is managing to push all these years later.

Raise Your Hand If You’ve Purchased GTA 5 More Than One Time

As first spotted by GamesRadar, GTA 5 is managing to push — wait for it — roughly five million units a quarter. In the business world, a quarter is defined as three months, meaning 1.66 million copies or so are flying off the shelves each month.

The numbers, which were shared in Take-Two’s latest financial report, show that the 2013 sandbox game is up to 215 million lifetime units sold. A quarter ago, that number was 210 million units. Over its lifetime, the GTA franchise as a whole has sold 450 million units, with GTA 5 accounting for almost half of the sales …ever.

It’s a rather stunning set of numbers, all things considered. Go figure that people are not only buying GTA 5 like hotcakes, but watching it too, as the game managed to top 1.4 billion hours viewed on Twitch. I know I’m not the only one who’s bought GTA 5 more than once, but it is wild to think of the game’s staying power over a decade later. GTA 6’s numbers will almost assuredly be even more wild.
