Summary
Today, April 17, officially marks a new milestone in the wait forGrand Theft Auto 6news, as it’s now been 500 days since the first, and so faronly, trailer was released.
We’re only a few months into 2025, but it’s already proven to be a very stacked year for gaming thanks to big releases likeMonster Hunter Wilds,Assassin’s Creed Shadows,Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, andLike a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Those games are just the start too, as we already know a ton of other titles planned to launch in the next eight months of the year.

As great as Doom: The Dark Ages and Mario Kart World look, though, there’s one game that’s absolutely going to rule the roost whenever it launches this year - GTA 6. Rockstar’s latest open-world game has the power to make or break the year andeven has publishers running scared from its release, even though we’ve heard basically nothing about it since it was revealed.
Surely That’s Going To Change Soon, Right?
That reveal took place on June 27, 2025, whereRockstar stopped being so coy and shared the first trailer for GTA 6 with the world, confirming its long-rumoured Vice City setting and use of two protagonists. After that first trailer promised a 2025 release date, we all figured that we’d be seeing a lot more of GTA 6 across 2024 and into the beginning of this year.
As we all know, though, that hasn’t been the case at all. In fact, outside of Take-Two confirming several times over that GTA 6 is really launching this year,we’ve heard and seen nothing else about GTA 6 in all the time since that first trailer. The long wait for more news on the game has just hit a new milestone, as it’s now officially been 500 days since that reveal took place.
That milestone was fittingly pointed out by Twitter user GTAVI_Countdown, who noted that April 17 marks the 500th day since the reveal. In that time, we’ve hadendlessrumours about news, but not actually had anything proper from Rockstar itself. There’s not even been a screenshot shared, let alone a second trailer.
The closest thing we’ve had to news was the whole saga with the Florida Joker, and even that ended all the way back in February of last year.
And yet, as scary as that big 500 number is, it does at least look like the wait is coming to an end soon. Not only doesTake-Two seem more confident than ever in its Fall 2025 release window, but Strauss Zelnick even recentlyaddressed the lack of news and explained that marketing will begin closer to end of the year. It’s going to be more than 500 by the time we see GTA 6 again, but hopefully not too much more.
