Helldivers 2recently launched a cowboy-themed Warbond fittingly named “Borderline Justice”. It’s a hog-killin' time, but there’s something crucial missing from the pack.
While the Warbond mostly went down well, a lot of fans were mad as a hornet about the lack of cowboy hats, which, in fairness, isthemost important part of the cowboy getup. But Arrowhead stuck to its guns, asdirector and former CEO Johan Pilestedtargued that cowboy hats"crossed the line [of] what the Helldivers are"and that “people don’t wear hats on helmets” (even though berets were added last year).
So, modder Doom-mark took it upon themselves toadd a bunch of unique “cowboy helmets” to the game, making the Warbond skins feel a little more accurate to the theme. And as commenter JKStahl puts it, “Man was [Pilestedt] wrong”.
They’re Not The Only One - There Are A Few Cowboy Hat Mods
While this mod is easily the best of the bunch, Doom-mark is far from the only modder to have capitalised on the community’s outrage.
If you get black textures when downloading the mod, switch to DX12.
AlkalineCanid added a cowboy hatto the Democracy’s Deputy helmet, rounding out the look with unique models and textures put together by “yours truly”, once again proving that Helldivers do in fact look cool with a Stetson.
Vanzerker, meanwhile,put together an entire cowboy collection, featuring a new hat, more traditional Western armour, and even a Remington 1858 Revolver. You can download all the individual pieces separately, so you can really fine-tune how your Helldiver looks with this mod.
Even if Arrowhead won’t add cowboy hats, as long as you’re on PC, there are plenty of options. And you shouldn’t get banned since they’re purely cosmetic (not to mention your Helldiver will look a lot cooler for it). So, they’re definitely worth picking up if, like many others, you feel that something is ever-so-slightly off about the new Warbond.
