While theHorizonseries borrows heavily from the RPG genre, one key element missing is the option to romance anyone in the game. With the narrative so driven on Aloy’s quest, she doesn’t have the time to stop what she’s doing to hook up with the broad cast of characters she meets. That hasn’t stoppedfans from speculating on Aloy’s romantic preferences though, and now her voice actor Ashly Burch has weighed in.
Speaking to TheGamer at The Gaming BAFTAs, Burch told us her views on the red carpet about one of her most iconic roles in a prestigious list that includesTiny TinainBorderlands,Chloe PriceinLife is Strange, andParvatiinThe Outer Worlds. “I personally always imagine Aloy is queer,” Burch told us.

“She Has To Really Respect The Person To Have That Connection”
Burch did stress that she doesn’t feel her position as the voice actor confirms anything in the text, but that her belief is merely her interpretation from getting to know the role so well across the two games. “This is me. This is Ashly the actor, don’t at Guerrilla [Games, the developers of Horizon]. This is not canon. This is just me.”
“I kind of think she’s demi a bit” Burch said. “That’s sort of my take on her. I think she had to work through some stuff to even open herself up to the possibility of, like, ‘I deserve this’. What would this look like? But I think she has to really respect the person to have that connection.”
‘Demi’ refers to demisexuality, a sexuality within the asexality spectrum that means only experiencing sexual attraction after forming a strong emotional bond with another person.
In the same interview,Burch also discussed the controversial decision to have Max and Chloe break upinLife is Strange: Double Exposure, suggesting she “wouldn’t have written it that way”. Given the fan reaction, she’s clearly not the only one who feels that way.
Also speaking to TheGamer at the BAFTAs was Nicolas Doucet, director ofAstro Bot, who saidthe door isn’t quite closedon the much requestedFinal Fantasybot cameo yet.
