Galapa take after large turtles or tortoises, and are one of the many playable ancestries you can select for yourself inDaggerheart. Cosmetically speaking, these creatures can be anywhere from four to six feet tall, and come in many different cool, earth colors. Plus, much like real turtles, they can retract inside their shells, making them incredibly sturdy creatures.
If you’re diving into Daggerheart for the first time, you might be asking yourself what the benefits are of selecting a galapa for your character. That’s why we’ve created this guide. Here’s everything you need to know to play a galapa in Daggerheart.

Galapa Ancestry Overview
As mentioned, galapa are tough and resourceful creatures, perfect for melee or close range combat. They can evenattach armor or design carvings to their shells.
Details
Shell
When you select this ancestry, yougain a bonus to your damage threshold that is equal to your Proficiency(which gets higher as you level up).
Retract
Just like real turtles, galapa can retract inside their shell by marking a Stress.
While you are in your shell, you have resistance to physical damage, but unfortunately, you also have disadvantage on action rolls, and cannot move.

Galapa Life Span
Galapascan live up to 150 years old, and age very slowly.
When designing your galapa character, talk to your DM about coming up with armor improvements for your shell or cosmetic designs.

What Are The Best Classes For Galapa?
When it comes to galapa, their ancestry features mostly serve tohelp them resist damage in combat, meaning you’ll want topick a martial-based class.
Stalwart Guardian
Stalwart guardians are heavy fighterswho are used to taking damage in close-quarters combat.
Many of the Stalwart subclasses' features involvepermanent bonuses to damage thresholds, which capitalizes on your already high galapa-based damage threshold you get when you first select the ancestry.
Vengeance Guardian
Your specialization feature for this subclass allows you togain a +1 to your Proficiencyfor the next successful attack you make against an enemy.
Because the galapa’s damage threshold increases as their Proficiency does, this ability gets more powerful alongside the galapa’s natural sturdiness.
Warden of the Elements Druid
Your foundation ability for this subclass allows you togain a bonus to your damage thresholds equal to your Proficiency.
This means your damage threshold buff as a galapa stacksand can potentially become extremely powerful, even at early levels.
When it comes to galapas, any abilities, Domain Cards, or features that augment your Proficiency are going to work wellthanks to your Shell feature.
What Are The Best Communities For Galapa?
When it comes to galapa, theirancestry features don’t necessarily make a huge impact on your community selection.
However, two communities work well with galapaon a character build and roleplay level.
Wildborne
When you select this community, yougain the Lightfoot feature, meaning you have advantage on rolls to move without being heard.
As galapa are somewhat cumbersome creatures, and not necessarily all that fast, being stealthy can prove immensely helpful.
Seaborne
Seaborne, narratively speaking, makes a lot of sense for galapajust in terms of roleplay.
However, their community feature, which allows them togain bonuses to their action roll, is also helpful, even though it doesn’t necessarily synergize with the galapa’s ancestry features.
When it comes to selecting starting equipment and armor for your galapa, you’ll want topick something with a high base damage thresholdto maximize your natural shell armor.
Chainmail Armor and Full Plate Armor are good for this, but be warned, each of these Tier One armor sets comes with nerfs for Evasion and Agility.
