To ensure you have many opportunities to gain levels that will makeClair Obscur: Expedition 33easy, there are a lot of side things you can do. One of them is the optional boss battles. Unlike the confrontations tied to the story of the RPG, these fights are quite challenging — but rewarding. You can find this in the Chromatic Abbest boss.
This character can be difficult if you’re not prepared for what it’ll throw at you. On top of that, you may skip it outright because it can be very easy to miss.

How To Find The Chromatic Abbest
This boss may be the first one you face as soon as you exit theFlying Waters and make it to the Continent. However, as mentioned, the area where the Chromatic Abbest resides is easily missable.
To locate this boss, head toSpring Meadows, which is inthe first sectionof the Continent that you unlock. Then, head left from Spring Meadows to find Abbest Cave. When you see a cave entrance withpink vines, leaves, and a large flower-like plant, you’re in the right area.

The good thing about Abbest Cave is that it’s small, and the Chromatic Boss will be easy to find.
How To Defeat The Chromatic Abbest
Beating this character can be far easier once you reach a certain part of the game.
The reason is that itsweakness is Dark moves, andSciel, who you’ll recruit in Act 1, is an expert with this element. It’s a good idea to wait to fight the boss until you have Sciel. But, even with her, you’re going to face a lot of resistance because the Chromatic Abbest attacks pack a heavy punch.

Team Set-Up
The best well-rounded team to use is the following:
For this team, there is themain attacker in Sciel.Maelle offers compounding attacks, since she can makeChromatic Abbest Burn for more than one turn. Then,Lunerounds off this make-up byhealing her team and potentially stunning the boss.
You can keep Lune as the primary healer, but it’s recommended to have Sciel as one as well because it charges her Dark skills.

Best Strategy
To fight in your favor, try to get the first strikebefore starting the battle. You could end up going first. Next, have Lune first use attacks likeThunderfall and Electrify. She may be able to stun the Chromatic Abbest. Which results inanother full turnfor you.
Afterwards, bring inSciel’s Twilight Slash. It’s a weak attack, but since theboss is weak to Dark skills,it’ll be more damaging. With Maelle, consider usingDegagement. The move makes Chromatic Abbestweaker to fire attacks for around two turns.

If you equip Maelle with other fire attacks, such as Spark, you can compound these two moves to do additional damage. This shouldalso add Burn. Meaning its health will go down evenwhen no one is attacking. You may be able tostack Burn Effectsif another skill of hers has that ability.
Before going further, the Chromatic Abbesthas three moves. All of them are quite damaging but have an easy-to-follow rhythm.

The first attack is a blade-like move. When it jumps in the air, you’ll see something come out of the front of the pink ball. Depending on which character it hits, the damage will be quite drastic. So, as soon as you see the blade pop out of its head, parry as fast as you’re able to.
If you’re not good at parrying, dodging would be the best second option. You won’t be able to bank Action Points as efficiently, but you can stay alive a lot longer since it’s easier to dodge.

Its second attackcomes from the groundand is easier to avoid since you cansee it coming in front of you. The third attack in its move set will have itmove closer to a party member to attack at close range. When you see the charactertip backwards, start your parry or dodge.
If any of these attacks land, you have two options: useLune’s Healing Lightto heal a selected party member or herself. Or useSciel’s Grim Harvestto heal all party members, including Sciel, while hurting the enemy.
However, note that theformer costs two Action Pointswhereas thelatter is five. But, Grim Harvest is aDark movethat will do more damage.
Lune’s Healing Light uses no Action Points if you have Earth Stains active.
The rule of thumb for this fight is to keep using bothSciel’s Sun and Moonattacks consistently. Doing this willput her in Twilight modewhere her attackdamage is doubled. This lastsa few turns, which would be more than enough time to cause a high amount of damage.
