Quick Links
Of all the Utopia Builder maps inFrostpunk 2, the Fractured Gorge stands out as one of the most unique maps thanks to its abundance of natural Steam deposits. As a result, the Fractured Gorge is one of the only maps that make Steam-only runs possible.
Thanks to this unique little quirk, the Fractured Gorge can be a fun and challenging endeavour for those wanting to spice up their Utopia Builder runs with something they’ve never tried before. Of course, every great city needs to begin with a plan first, and understanding the Fractured Gorge as a map should be the first step of that plan.

What Is The Fractured Gorge Scenario?
The Fractured Gorge is a map scenarioavailable only in the Utopia Builder modeon the Main Menu. As a Utopia Builder, the Fractured Gorgecan be played indefinitelywith the Endless Builder mode in place, a customizable option like the following available on the main menu screen:
you may enable the Endless Builder mode after you have played a Utopia Builder city to your Steward’s demise at approximately 2,000 weeks.

Which Tale Is The Best For The Fractured Gorge?
Of the Tales, the Fractured Gorge has some mixed performance.See the chart belowto see the pros and cons of this map about these Tales:
How To Play The Fractured Gorge Scenario: What To Expect
The city willalways begin at the crown of the gorge hill. The gorge will stretch behind it on the north side, while cliffs will populate the northwest and southeast corners. From the city, a slope of ice and snow will bottom out into a plains-like area.
Resources are randomizedin this area, but the following is almost always true:

Coal
Typically found somewhere on the west side near the cliffs, whether above or below. There are always two deposits, and one always has a Deep Deposit.
Prefabs
Located in three or four areas, with at least one somewhere in the gorge. Deposits are normally small.
Food
Always east or south of the hill in abundance and typically in a line. There is always one Deep Deposit.
Not found on this map.
Materials
Usually centered in one giant cluster in the east or south. Tends to swap positions with Food resources in each map instance. Always has one Deep Deposit and is generous in amount.
Steam
Always at least two Steam deposits (Geothermal Springs), appearing somewhere south of the hill. As many as three have appeared on multiple generations of this map.
Logistics
Two exitsare located in one of three potential edge locations: northwest, southwest, and southeast.
WhileGeothermal Springs are frequenton this map and provide general area heating, the gorge itself also protectsfrom the wind and provides additional warmth. The southwest and southeast corners will always be windswept, meaning buildings in these areas will always be colder. This will always affect at least one Logistics district.

Tips And Tricks For Completing The Fractured Gorge
The Fractured Gorge almost begs you to make use of its many Steam deposits. For this reason, researching the Adaption Generator Upgrade, which allows you to use Steam, Coil, and Oil, is recommended.
With this upgrade, you’ll mostly bebalancing Steam and Coilas your main fuel workhorses.

Oil can only be gathered by establishing a Fuel Colony or by finding another colony that, with luck, happens to have an Oil deposit.
Fuel aside, beginning this map comes witha few notable priorities:
Only once the above is done can you focus on the lesser but still important goal ofbuilding a Food district.
The Fractured Gorge is a map that greatly benefits from the early establishment of Skyways and outer colonies. To take advantage of that, firstfocus on squaring away your immediate resource needswithin the city while youresearch Skyways.

Once Skyways is researched, set your sights on the Frostlands. Out here, you shoulddo the following first:
As you explore the Frostlands, make sure youfind the time to research what will lower Territory Threat levels. This does not overrule the priority of keeping your city resources up, but it should not be forgotten.

As your city grows, you shouldkeep most housing on the hill, descending from the generator.Leave a gap ofabout every third row toplace a Heating Hub. Eventually, your city might grow too large to stay on the hill. You can either:
If your city grows large enough, building down into the gorgeitself is not a bad decision.

If one of your Geothermal Springs is located on the hill, continue to build your housing around it. Justplace a Heat Dispatcher and a Ventilation Tower of your choosing in each neighbouring districtto combat the squalor effects from the Extraction district on it.
Likewise, you canplace Housing districts around Extraction districts with excess heat, thanks to researched items like the Deep Cogenerating Drill with the same strategy.

As the Temperature continues to get lower in flux, your attention will eventually shift away from resources and exploration back to heating. Once you have established enough of a resource supply, begin rapidly researching generator upgradesthat increase the heat gained from Steam. Likewise, you shouldresearch all of the Geothermal Plant upgrades.
With your generator upgraded, select Steam as your primary heat source. With this done and resources secure, all that will be left is:

When youreach 2,000 weeks, your scenario with the Fractured Gorge will technically be complete; however, options to endlessly continue will be presented.
