Velgar is the dragon that can often be seen flying through the sky as it spits poison on the ground, and the build-up to the fight has been nothing but exciting, as you can finally put it in its place for all the trouble it has caused.

If you’ve made it to the fight, Velgar may prove to be a challenging foe, but with some precise preparations, you’ll be able to defeat it easily and avenge Cathan. Here’s how you can prepare to fight against it and avoid some of its most annoying attacks.

Runescape: Dragonwilds is currently in Early Access. As such, the game’s content may change in future updates. If that happens, we’ll update the guide accordingly.

Where To Find Velgar

Velgar resides in thehuge tower in the center of the Fractured Plains. However, to fight against it, you’ll have to craft the Challenge Horn. The Challenge Horn can be crafted on a smithing anvil by combiningBloodwood Sapand aDragon Toothwith five bronze bars.

Once you have crafted the Challenge Horn, you’ll have to head to Velgar’s Rise, the tower in Fractured Plains, andplace the Challenge Horn on the Dragonkin Altar. Doing so will summon Velgar to fight against you.

Preparations For Velgar Boss Battle

Velgar is a power level four boss, which means you’ll need armor and weapons that areat least level four to comfortably fight against it. It is recommended that you have the full set of Ironplate Armor, which provides a 75 Lifeward HP on top of your base HP.

Be sure to bring some small or medium wardstones to get that extra Lifeward HP. Other than that, it’simportant to bring a strong bow. You can use either the Blightwood Longbow, the Blightwood Shortbow, or the Hunter Stagbow to fight against Velgar.

Crafting an Anti-Poison Potion in Runescape: Dragonwilds.

Keep in mind that using a melee weapon is highly dangerous because Velgar mostly keeps flying and landing all around the tower, and it’s a lot easier to stick to the bow to dish out consistent damageinstead of chasing the boss around with a melee weapon.

Bring an Anti-Poison Potion to withstand Velgar’s poison attacks. If you don’t bring an Anti-Poison Potion, the fight is most likely over the moment you get affected by the poison. After using the Anti-Poison Potion, you’re able to comfortably stand your ground without taking much damage, even if Velgar covers the entire tower in poison.

You can craft the Anti-Poison Potion by combining Harralander and a Bittercap Mushroom inside a brewing cauldron.

Bring a fewhealing potionsas well. These potions will allow you to survive the fight more easily, even if you take some damage in the process.Make sure you’re at full HP and use the Anti-Poison Potionbefore you put the Challenge Horn on the Dragonkin Altar.

How To Fight Against Velgar

Velgar repeatedly uses the same few attacks during the entire boss battle. These attacks progressively get stronger as Velgar loses more HP, and avoiding them becomes more challenging. All you have to do is repeatedly attack the boss with your bow whenever it lands on the tower, and you’ll eventually come out victorious.

Poison Spit

Velgar covers a triangular area in front of it with poison. If you step on the poison, you will take damage and will build up the poison status effect, unless you’re using the Anti-Poison Potion. You’ll still have toavoid the initial spit attack, which can be done by pressing the evade button at the precise time.

Earth Spikes

The boss will slam its claw on the ground, sending a tracking attack from under the ground, which will cause spikes to erupt from the ground where you’re standing. Velgar willsend multiple spikes in your direction if its HP is getting lowered.

You will have toevade just as the spikes are about to connectto avoid taking any damage. It’s good practice to evade multiple times in a row if the boss sends multiple spikes in your direction.

Poison Rain

Velgar will take to the skies, shooting poison at the tower. You can spot where the poison blast is going to landby watching the circles on the ground. You have to watch your footing and avoid the initial blasts. If you end up stepping on the poison that’s on the ground, you won’t take any damage if you’re using the Anti-Poison potion.

In the latter half of the fight, these circles on the ground will start moving, and it will becomedifficult to predict the precise locationof the poison blasts, but you simply have to wait out this attack.
