As you explore the world ofClair Obscur Expedition 33, you’re going to come across the wildest and oddest creatures and entities. Nevrons are the main enemy you’ll face - odd fusions of creature and mechanism that will get aggressive with you on sight. Well, most of them will.
Petanks are a bit different to your usual enemies. Instead of antagonising you on sight, these odd, ball-like enemies will run away from you as soon as you get near them, making it almost impossible to actually get a hit in and start a standard battle. You’ll have to actually trap them if you want a fight.

How To Trap Petanks
It is impossible to catch a Petank simply by dashing at it. As soon as you get close enough that you’d be able to start a fight with your attack button, it willdart off far quicker than you can react.
Instead, the key to fighting a Petank is to firstget it trapped. Whenever you find a Petank, you can be sure that there will be apattern on the ground that resembles lots of semi-circles closing in on themselves. This acts as amagnetthat will root the Petank to the spot if it runs over it, making it simple prey to fight.
Petanks will run away from you to very specific spots in an area. To trap it, you’ll first need toidentify where the Petank trap is, and thenfunnel the Petank towards the trapby getting close to it at veryspecific angles.
Chase it towards the trap bycircling around it at a long distancewhen necessary, and it’ll gladly run into its own demise.
How To Beat Petanks
Petanks are ascowardly during battleas they are out of battle. As you fight them, you’ll constantly be given warnings of how long it will take for the Petank torun away- you’ll need to beat the Petank within this time limit, or you’ll have torestart the fight by trapping the Petank again after resting at a checkpoint.
Petanks will use different methods to draw battles out, so it’s important toadjust your strategies accordingly. For example, one Petank likes to give itself high amounts of shielding, so you’ll need to counter this with shield-breaking skills or skills with high numbers of hits. Another will summon additional enemies each turn to distract you, which should be ignored in favour of burning the Petank down.
Upon defeating a Petank, you’ll be rewarded - usually withhandy upgrade items.
