You might not think that you’re going to be spending time fishing inSquirreled Away, the cozy survival game where you play as a squirrel. But, you’d have been wrong. Squirreled Away does let you tie a string onto a tiny stick, ready to catch the smallest of fish in your park.
There are a few ins-and-outs to fishing in Squirreled Away, and the game leaves you to figure some of it out by trial and error. It’s not too difficult once you understand how everything works, and it’s the only way to display a prized fishing trophy in your delightful squirrel abode.
How To Craft A Fishing Rod
Before you may start fishing, you’llneed to craft a fishing rod.
Crafting a Fishing Rod takes six sticks, two strings, and two paperclips.
You canobtain all of these materials in the Forest Nook, which is the first main area that you reach after leaving the tutorial island, called Sunrise Isle.
How To Fish
Fishing is extremely simple, and with a little patience, you’ll get exactly the fish you’re looking to catch. Simplythrow your line into the waterandpull it back the moment your line gets tugged.
This is going to grab you whatever variety of fish is available in that particular body of water.
Every Fishing Bait And What It Does
There arethree different kinds of fishing bait, and each kind of bait has a different effect.
Acorn Meatball Bait
1 Acorn + 2 Mushroom Chunk
This slightlyincreases the catch rate of higher-quality fish. You can catch the highest-quality fish even without the Acorn Meatball, meaning it’s not strictly necessary to catch the best fish in the game.
Almond Sausage Bait
1 Almond + 2 Mushroom Chunk
This slightlyincreases the speed at which you catch fish. It does not take long to catch fish by default, but if you’re looking to catch a ton of fish in a small amount of time, this could be useful.
Magnetized Bait
3 Can Scraps + 1 Paperclip
This allows you tograb coins from fountains. This only works in fountains that are self-contained, like the one near the wall in Fountain Springs. Coins can be entered into vending machines in exchange for a can.
Bait is automatically used, as long as it’s in your inventory.
Where To Find Every Fish
There arethree varieties of fishyou can obtain by fishing, and each fish comes in three rarities, between one and three stars.One-star fish are the most commonvariety, withthree-star fish being the most uncommon.
Where To Catch Neon Tetra
Neon Tetra areobtainable in any region other than The Ascended Gardens. If you’re looking to only catch Neon Tetra, you’ll need to fish in the giant body of water that surrounds the map, since it’s the only fish that you can catch there.
Most other bodies of water include Neon Tetra in their possible pool of fish, alongside the next one listed.
Where To Catch Goldfish
Goldfish areavailable in every region apart from Sunrise Isle. The only body of water available on Sunrise Isle is the giant one surrounding the island, which only contains Neon Tetra.
Goldfish are the only fish available in the river that runs through The Forest Nook, making it the prime spot if you’re only on the hunt for this kind of fish.
Where To Catch Koi
Koi are therarest variety of fish in the game, and areonly obtainable in The Ascended Gardens. There is no body of water that exclusively provides Koi, like the other two varieties of fish. The water surrounding the central building in The Ascended Gardens can provide Koi, but they’re going to gather you Goldfish more regularly than they will Koi.
How To Use Fish
Fish are not included in a healthy squirrel diet, and aren’t involved inany cooking recipes. They can, however, beproudly displayed in your home on a Fish Plaque. To build a fish plaque, you’ll just need two planks, which are crafted with two sticks on a Saw Station.
Fishing Plaques can only be placed on walls.
Once you’ve placed your Fish Plaque, you’re able to interact with it on your wall. When you do, it’ll bring up your inventory; simplymove whatever fish you’d like to display from your inventory into the inventory of the plaque, and you’ll be able to see your fishing achievement for as long as you’d like.
