After returning from the Ayleid ruins of Vahtacen inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, you’ll open the next chapter in your journey to the top of the Mages' Guild. To understand the machinations of the dangerous stirrings of necromancy and potential cult activity, you’ll have to open obscure tomes and do your due diligence to research.
Naturally, the best kind of research is the kind you take on yourself. After scouring tomes and narrowing down the scope of your suspicions, you’ll be able to take on a bit of first-hand experience, and if you choose to dabble in necromancy yourself along the way, who would be the wiser?

How To Start The Necromancer’s Moon Quest
To get started, you’ll need to have completed the following questsat the Arcane University:
Once these quests are complete, speak with Raminus Polusabout your next tasks for the University.

While you will have to advance in order to receive your next quests for most of the Mages' Guild questline, only Necromancer’s Moon does not require you to have accepted the promotion to Conjurer before taking on this quest.
After you’ve accepted Raminus’s newest task, seek out Tar-Meena at the Mystic Library.Tell her you were sent to see her and that you’re there to help.

Ask her about the Black Soul Gems. She’ll direct you to read a book called The Necromancer’s Moon.
That book issitting on a tablenear the door between the desk and the bookshelves on the west wall.

Read the Necromancer’s Moonand go over your findings with Tar-Meena.
Take the book with youback to Raminus Polus. He’ll direct you to talk with Bothiel.
If you interrupt a conversation between Raminus and Bothiel before speaking to Bothiel, the prompt to talk to her might not work. To fix this bug, simply leave the room and return. Bothiel should be more receptive to conversation then.

Talk to Bothielabout the Shade of the Revenant. She’ll give you a hastily scrawled note.Read it and then talk to Raminusanew.
How To Catch The Necromancers
Where you go to face the Necromancers does not matter.Although Raminus will direct you tovisit Dark Fissure Cave, the following locations are just as acceptable:
When you arrive at any of those locations, you will have a choice:

Choosing To Wait For The Ritual
If you wish to watch the ceremony performed or wish to perform the ritual yourself, you’ll have to wait for the correct date.
The Ritual will be performed every eight days, counting from your Days Passed statistic on your Character page (example: 1st, 9th, 17th, 25th, 33rd, 41st, 49th, etc.), and last 24 hours.

Your Days Passed should be reduced by one for each day you have spent a night in jail.
When the ritual begins, you should see a purple lightemanating from the altar from far away. Other indicators include cracks of thunder and a skybox phenomenon of purple-pink coloring.

The Worm Anchorite will perform a rite at the table during this time. At this time, you can:
To finish the rite, place an empty Grand Soul Gem within the altar. After, cast aSoul Trapspell on the altar.

Choosing To Steal From The Worm Anchorite
If you’re not the kind of person to wait around for a light show, you canenter Dark Fissure Cave and seek out the Worm Anchorite.
He has a Handwritten Noteon his person, and how you acquire it does not matter. You cankill him for it or pickpocket it. Either way, you can take this note back as your proof.
This is the riskier option as the cave is populated by several necromancers.
How To Conclude The Necromancer’s Moon
To wrap up the quest, take your findings back to Raminus Polus.
Once you tell him of the events at whichever altar you visited, you’ll finish the quest. This will grant you the ability toseek Advancementwith him to the Magician rank.
The Magician Rank does not come with any specific benefits, but you will nowseek out your tasks and assignments from Archmage Traveninstead of Raminus henceforth.
