Matsu is one of the main people in Naoe’s life whose whereabouts are unknown. However, after starting the From the Ashes quest inAssassin’s Creed Shadows, you will be tasked with finding her. That will trigger a series of other missions, which are fun to complete.

Finding Matsu isn’t easy, especially if you haven’t turned on the guided mode. The Scout system is a little complicated, as you would have to spend thousands just to use them. So, here we will guide you on how to find Matsu easily and complete all of the follow-up quests.

How To Start From The Ashes Quest

You can start this quest by headingsouth to the Mibuno Vale marker on the map in the IGA region. There, you will know that Matsu is still alive, and the objective will be updated to find her. You can find her at the Hinotani Shrine west of the Nabari Wilds in the Iga region.

You don’t have to use your scouts to find her. Just go to the location we have told you about, andyou will find Matsu there. After finding Matsu, talk to her, and the quest will be over. Then,another mission will start.

The Monk’s Wake

When you find Matsu,she will ask you to secure her cabin. The coordinates will be marked on your map, so go there.

Ignore the ronin on the way, asthis enemy type is super annoying to deal with.

Once you have reached the location, you will notice that Yoshiharu is being attacked by The Valley Yamabushi. Defeat him instantly.

If you do this quest after completingthe Yamabushi Imposters, then the Valley Yamabushi will already be dead.

You can alsosneak behind the Yamabushi and assassinate himto make the fight easier for you (he may not die with a single assassination attempt). Once you have defeated him, talk to Yoshiharu. When you are done talking to Yoshiharu, return to Matsu. Then, the next quest will start.

The Valley Yamabushi isn’t an easy opponent, so you may not be able to defeat him. His swings deal pretty serious damage, and he can even throw his weapon toward you.

Without the weapon, he is even annoying, so make sure to defeat him before he throws his weapon. That is because he won’t let you do more than one or two attacks; he will interrupt your attacks almost every time with an unparryable hit.

Good For What Ails You

After talking to Matsu, she will ask you toretrieve her maggots. They can be found in Southern Nabari Wilds, south of the Hinotani Shrine on the trail at the top of Akame Shi waterfall. Once you reach the location,gather the Maggots and return to Matsu. This will mark the mission’s end.

Shadows And Light

Shadows and Light will be the last follow-up quest, and it will be the most difficult one. After you have talked to Matsu, speak with Yoshiharu and tell himhis granddaughter is faking her injury. Then, you will be tasked with retrieving three lanterns.

These lanterns can be found atthe Kashiwara Manor in the Iga region. The manor isn’t a friendly place, and there will be a lot of enemies. So,being stealthy is the best way here. Do not go inside from the gate; instead, go to the left side, and eventually, you will find a spot to climb and make your way inside.

There are plenty of bushes inside, so use them to assassinate anyone you can. ensure to assassinate the big fellas first, asthey can be really annoying to fight. Hold L2 to highlight the objective in the area.

Three blue dots will glow, so you will have to go there and retrieve the lantern. A chest near one of the lanterns also features Kitsune’s Revenge, a rare trinket. If you are having trouble finding the lanterns, you can defeat the enemies first. Assassinate everyone, andkill one with your kunai if some of them are together.

You can also perform a double assassination. After you have defeated everyone, use the front gate as a reference to find the lanterns.The first one will be in the right cabin(there will also be an enemy inside). The second one will be in the big house in the front (the chest with a rare trinket will be here). The last one will be in the left cabin.

There are also plenty of useful items like Hemp Cloth, Silk, and Crops that you’re able to loot in the area. If you can’t find them, use L2 to mark them on the screen, and you should be able to locate each item in the area.

You will also find anepic Guardian Armor and Tools Apprentice Gear, an epic light armor. Once you have everything, go back to Yoshiharu and talk to him. After speaking with him, the quest will be over.
