The First Berserker: Khazanis a long and exhilarating experience with everything you’d want and need from a soulslike, with splashes of other genres that blend perfectly. Corpse runs, intense boss encounters, engaging combat, unique skills, and much more are present, making it a must-play for any fan of the genre.
The Trials of the Frozen Mountain mission is where things get interesting. It gives you access to every weapon class available and their respective Skill Trees, culminating with an extremely challenging and rewarding boss fight that will put your new skills to the test!
How To Complete Trials Of The Frozen Mountain
Afterspeaking with Quimuk,climb theset of laddersbehind her to the top of the cliffside and activate theBlade Nexus,creating yourfirst checkpointof the mission. You should havetons of Lacrima to spend from the Yetuga boss fight,so make sure you cash them in before moving on.
As you make your way down the hill from the Blade Nexus, you will see asmall trail leading to the right.Follow this path to stumble upontwo Wolvesandan itemon the ground. Take out the Wolves and loot the item to obtainx2 Citrus of Cleansingandx2 Stone!
Continuing Down The Hillside
Following themain pathwill have you getambushed by four Wolves,which shouldn’t be too hard to deal with. After taking care of them,continue moving forwarduntil you receive the ability to use aJavelin,allowing you to hurl a projectile at enemies in the distance.
There will be afew Monkeys in the distance.Use your newly acquired Javelin to eliminate them. Before going anywhere else, lookdirectly to the leftto find aMysterious Orebehind a wooden scaffolding andsmash it.Make your way over to where the Monkeys were and pick up thex3 Plague Resistance Exir!
Exploring The Surrounding Areas
Directlyto the rightwill be apack of Wolves.Run over to them and eliminate them, then pick up theSmall Spirit Oreon the ground. Then,directly acrossfrom the Wolves will be a couple ofMonkeysstanding by a tree. Make your way over to them and take them down, looting the item on the ground forx3 Citrus of Cleansing!
Marching Onward
When you’re done exploring the side areas,continue on the main pathuntil you’reambushed by four Wolves.Make quick work of them, then head to thelarge, empty area to the rightand loot the item on the ground forx2 Plague Cleanse Potion.From there, make your way back onto the main path.
In the distance will be aWild Boar.Awell-placed Javelin throw to its headwill temporarilystun it,allowing you to run up on it anddeliver several uncontested hits,making it substantially easier to take down. With the Boar eliminated,proceed onward until you reach a pathway that splitsto the left and right!
Creating A Shortcut
Take theleft pathto run intomore Wolvesand apurple itemon the ground. Defeat the Wolves and loot the item to receive aFire Enhancer,thencontinue following the pathway.At the end will be arotted tree.Interact with it tokick it over,creating a niftyshortcut back to the Blade Nexusyou activated earlier.
Spend your accumulated Lacrima,thenhead back to where the branching paths wereto continue your adventure through the snowy mountainside!
Greatsword Trial
Following theright pathwaywill lead you to acorpsein the snow, allowing you toAbsorb itfor someLacrima and Soul Tear Dust.From there, continue until youreach a graveyardwith aGreatswordplanted in the snow. Approach the Greatsword to trigger a cutscene.
When the cutscene is finished, you willhave the Greatsword equipped,and thefirst Trialwill begin.Several Specters will appear from the gravesites,but theyshouldn’t be too hardto deal with. This isessentially a tutorialon how to use this weapon type properly. So cut them down to finish the Trial!
Onto The Next Trial
Now that you have the basics of the Greatsword down, you canfollow the pathway to the back leftof the graveyard into the next area. On your way there, anisolated lot with an item will be on your left.Pick the item up to obtainx2 Vitality Spheres,then continue pushing forward.
You willeventually reach another Blade Nexus,allowing you tospend your Lacrimaand relax now that you’ve found anothercheckpoint!
Spear Trial Bound
From the newly activated Blade Nexus, there will betwo paths,one to theleft and another to the right.Take the right pathfirst and follow. You will eventually find acave tucked away in the wall on the right;enter it to find aYetiwaiting within. Handle it the same way you did in the previous mission.
With the Yeti defeat,loot the itemin the cave to obtainx2 Fire Cleanse Potion.Exit the cave and take a right, following it to the end of the walkway. There will be anitem at the dead end.Snag it to receivex2 Willpower Orb.From here, head back to the Blade Nexus!
Continuing The Critical Path
Take theleft pathand follow it until you see aWild Bearin front of a tree. This fight, like the previous mission, will be pretty challenging.Reflect its attacks and focus on its Stamina Gaugewhileremaining patient.Being too aggressive here will likely not end well for you.
Now that the Bear is defeated, you canAbsorb the corpse on the groundin the arena for a nice chunk of Lacrima and Soul Tear Dust. From here,look toward where you came fromto see apathway to the left.Take this down andfollow ituntil you reach another branching pathway!
Straight Ahead
Continuestraight aheaduntil you seeseveral Monkeys drop downfrom the ceiling, and use yourJavelintopick them off.Proceed forward and grab theConcentrated Fire Essence,having anotherMonkey ambush youthe moment you pick it up. Swiftly eliminate it and proceed back to the other route!
Back On Track
Head up the inclineand follow the pathway until apack of Wolvesambushyou. Finish them off, as you’ve been doing, then continue onward. You will eventually reach a point where you caneither go left or right.Choose theleft pathwayto find acaveand go inside it.
As you step inside the cave, awave of Batswill swarm you,guard to avoid taking damage.From here, continue pushing forward until you find anImperial Knightstanding over a corpse. Like always,this fight will be challenging,but you’ll handle it as you did the others.
After you have slain the Imperial Knight, look on theleft side of the caveto find aMysterious Orein a small nook.Smash it,then exit the cave and begin following the main path once more!
Approaching The Trial
As you get back on the critical path and follow it, you willencounter another Wild Boar.Use yourJavelintostun it,and take care of it just as you did the first one. From here, movea bit furtheruntil you see a couple ofMonkeysby a tree, swiftly take them out, and continue onward.
Cross over the bridgeand follow it through until you reach a newBlade Nexus.Activate it, spend your well-earned Lacrima, and let out a sigh of relief that you have a newcheckpoint!
Spear Trial
From the Blade Nexus,follow the path outuntil youreach a corpseandAbsorbit to obtain moreLacrima and Soul Tear Dust.Continue forward until you see aSpearsticking in the snow andapproach it to activate another cutscene.Once it finishes, you will be wielding the Spear, ready totackle theTrial.
Like the Greatsword Trial, this isessentially a tutorial on how to use the Spear,having youface a few Spectersto get the hang of it. Once you finish the Trial, you willgain access to its Skill Tree.You now haveaccess to all three weapon typesin The First Berserker: Khazan!
Preparing For The Next Trial
Now that you have a firm grasp of how to use the Spearfollow the path from the Spear Trialuntil you reach abranching pathway.Take theright pathto eventually get to aChestresting on the side of a cliff. Open the Chest to obtain aVolk Warrior’s Helm, Volk Warrior’s Vest, and the Veteran’s Ring.
If you want, you candrop down and rest at the Blade Nexusyou activated just before the Spear Trial. After that,continue following the main pathuntil you reach abridge with several guardsin the area. Use yourJavelintopick them off,then safely proceed across.
Once on theother side of the bridge,head straight until you reach anotherBlade Nexus.Activate it to get anothercheckpoint,allowing you to prepare for the next Trial!
Completing The Dual Wield Trial
From the Blade Nexus,head back toward the bridgeuntil you see acave entrance to the rightand enter it, following it the entire way through until you reach aSoldier.Quickly eliminate the Soldier andlook to the right to find an archertraining their sights on you. Use yourJavelintopick them off.Loot theitemon the ground for aTransmutation Shard.
Peek over the edge of the cliffsideto notice thesolid ground beneath youand aSoldier patrollingit. Perform aplunging attackon him to take them out effortlessly, thenproceed forward.There will be anorange itemon the ground. Pick it up to obtain aTear Summon Stone!
Climbing Up To Cliffside
Near the Tear Summon Stone will be aladder. Take it upto the platform above, which will haveanother ladder.Use this ladder toget even further up the cliffside.There will be aSoldierhere; you cansneak upon him and take him out swiftlyor use your Javelinto pick him off.
Follow the pathwayout andlook to the rightto see acorpseon the ground.Absorbit for that sweetLacrima and Soul Tear Dust,then turn around. There will be aMysterious Oreon thecliffside to the left.Using yourJavelin,hurl it at the Ore tosmash it.This is thefinal Mysterious Orein this mission!
Dropping Down
Walk past the smashed Mysterious Ore,look down to see a platform,anddrop onto it.Follow this pathway down until you’re on solid groundin front of a cave.Enter the caveandimmediately block,as aswarm of Batswill come flying at you. After shielding the Bats,turn aroundto find a blue item at the edge of the cave. Pick it up forx3 Assassin’s Elixir.
Continue moving through the cave until you’re back outside. There will betwo Soldiersand apurple item.you may use yourJavelin to pick them off or sneak up on the first one and fight the secondone head-on. Nonetheless, once they’re dealt with, loot the item for anEarth Enhancer!
Scaling The Tower
Continue pushing forward to find awooden bridge that leads to a towerandseveral Soldiers.A Soldier wielding asword and shield will approachyou.Deal with them first,and then use yourJavelinto take out thearcher on the tower.After that, you cansafely cross the bridgeand make your way toward the tower.
Before scaling the tower,go to theother side of it to find a Chest.Open it up to receive aVolk Warrior’s Trousers, Volk Warrior’s Gaiters, and the Necklace of Resilience.Now, you’re able to make your way up the tower!
Multiple Pathways
Once you scale the tower, there will beanother ladderthat leads to the top of a cliffside.Take this ladder upto findmultiple pathways.One will lead downward to the left, with the others leading further up the cliffside. For now,follow the path leading downuntil you seetwo Soldiers resting at a bonfire.
There will bea standard Soldierhere andan Imperial Knight.Focus on theSoldier first,as you candispatch them relatively quickly,thenhandle the Knight the same as always.With both eliminated, loot theblue itemon the ground for anotherSoul Tear Dust!
Heading Up
From here, you cantake the right pathway and follow it up,ultimately bringing you to anImperial Centurion.Like the first mission, he will put up a fight andwon’t go down easy.UtilizingReflections and punishing his heavier attacks will be the way to go.Don’t get too greedy, as hecan drain your Stamina and Health in an instant.
With the Centurion defeat,continue up the cliffsideuntil youcome across a ladder.Walk over to it andkick it, creating a shortcut to the Blade Nexus you activated earlier.Westrongly recommend resting at it and cashing in all the Lacrimayou’ve earned since then!
Dual Wield Trial
Climb back up the shortcut ladderand follow the pathway until you reach theDual Wieldsticking out of the ground.Approach itas you did the others totrigger a cutscene,kicking off theDual Wield Trialwhen it’s done. Here, you will be fightingKhazan’s Abyss,another Specter thatwon’t take too much effortto defeat.
After completing the Dual Wield Trial,continue following the main pathway.There will be ablue item on your right.Pick it up to obtainx2 Vitality Shard.Next,head across the bridgeand into the caveto find anotherBlade Nexus.Activate it for thefinal shortcutof the mission!
Defeat Blade Phantom
Finally, you’re at themission’s boss,theBlade Phantom.This is yourfirst real skill checkof The First Berserker: Khazan, so ensure you’re prepared before you face him. This encounterconsists of two phases and will push you to your limit,forcing you to utilize everything you’ve just learned to overcome.
If you’restruggling to take Blade Phantom down,fear not;we have you covered on that front,too. This fight can be grueling, especially if you don’t have a firm grasp on your favorite weapon type yet. But, with some time, effort, and proper strategies, he will be taken down in no time!
