The endgame bosses inThe First Berserker: Khazanare pretty ferocious. So, it shouldn’t be surprising that Ozma, the final boss of the game, is quite possibly the hardest boss in the game. Not only does he have two (three if you trigger the true ending) separate health bars, but he also has a massive number of attacks. From ice beams to massive explosions to swooping wing strikes, Ozma has a thousand ways to make your life painful.
Ozma shifts from being a magical marvel in the first phase to an aggressive menace during the second and third phases. Ozma may have the biggest bag of tricks of all the bosses, but with a little guidance, you’ll be able to help Khazan get the revenge he seeks once and for all.

How To Defeat Ozma
Ozma can be a pretty frustrating boss, especially since he is so adept at running away. This boss excels both at close and long range, but you need to be more careful when he is farther away from you;that is when Ozma is unstoppable.
He has three phases, soit may take you a little while to understand his moveset, but once you do, the fight will become way easier.

to fight Ozma’s third form you’ll need to complete a number of requirements - the most pressing of which is collecting the 15 fragments of Ozma’s diary. For a complete guide on where to find these 15 documents, check out our ending guide here.
Ozma’s First Phase
Ozma isn’t an easy boss, but he becomesmore manageable when you learn his moveset. His first phase is heavily focused on using a wide variety of magic attacks to deal damage to you from afar and make the arena inhospitable.
Like the other magic users in The First Berserker, you can disrupt many of Ozma’s attacks. Better yet, you will be able to stun him and loop your attacks. This isparticularlyeffective if you are using a spear.

If you parry his close-range attacks, you willtypicallyhave the opportunity to go on the offensive afterward. However, between his ability to fly, and his AOE attacks, hecancreate distance pretty easily. Just do your best to get back to him the first chance you can.
When you see that Burst Attack symbol,Ozma will swoop in with his unblockable Burst Attack. He’ll circle you to his right for a second or two, so track him and then activate your counter when he starts moving toward you. Take advantage of these moments, as they are a great source of easy damage.

Ozma’s Melee Attacks
Ozma relies on magic more than anything during the first phase of this battle. However, healsohas a few physical attacks that you’ll want to be aware of, especially since countering these attacks is one of the more reliable ways to damage Ozma in his first form.
WhenOzma winds up, twisting his torso away from Khazan, he’stypicallypreparing to swing his staff at him. Once he does, he’ll fly backward, pause, then fly forward and deliver a second horizontal slash. The second attack here isveryeasy to Brink Guard, as it is so heavily telegraphed. After blocking it, you will be able to hit Ozma a few times, as he’ll be momentarily stunned.

However, sometimes instead of a staff swing, he’ll hit you with a three-hit wing combo. You’ll be forewarned by a burst of purple energy. Each of these wing swings is super delayed. There is about a full-second pause between the first two hits. They aren’t hard to guard, but that delay can definitely mess with your timing. The pause before the third swing isby farthe longest -it has close to atwo-second delay. However, the reward for Brink Guarding this third attack is pretty huge, as you will stagger Ozma.
Ozma’s Projectile Attacks
In his first form, Ozma will rely on a wide variety of projectile-based magic spells. He’ll summon clusters of rocks that he’ll fire at you. These are relatively slow, but they will track you a small amount. You shouldBrink Dodge themjustbefore they hityou. Healways fires two clustersof rocks back-to-back. Ozma will summon five swords that will surround him before he fires them at you. If yourun to the side, they will all miss you.
Ozma also has multiple beam-like spells that he’ll rely upon throughout the encounter. He has an ice blast, a fire wall, and a chaos beam. These all operate quite differently from each other, but they do share one thing in common:they don’t have any homing ability, and they travel in a straight line.

Ozma has another projectile attack which will fire offa group of chaos projectiles which are relatively slow-moving, but will track Khazan. You can Brink Guard these projectiles, but it will cause you to accumulate a decent amount of the chaos effect. The best way to avoid them is toget in close, as they will sail over Khazan’s head if he is right next to Ozma.
The ice blastsees Ozma thrust his staff into the ground, causing a line of ice to shoot across the arena from Ozma. It will explode a moment after it is fired. The beam gets wider as it travels outward, so it is considerably easier to dodge if you are close to Ozma. You’ll want to get as close to him as possible as he raises his staff, and dodge to the side as his staff strikes the ground.

The fire wallspell will begin with Ozma swinging his staff upward, causing a wall of fire to form. It is the slowest of the three, but it will stick around for quite some time afterward - cutting off a large swathe of the arena.
Ozma firesthe chaos beamas he retreats. You’ll know it is coming, as his hand will glow with chaos energy. This is the quickest of these linear spells, and he performs it while retreating, making it relatively tricky as well. When you see his hand pulsating, get ready to dodge to the side.

Naturally, if you are struck by any of these beams, you’ll have the related effects inflicted upon you.
Ozma will make use of javelins throughout the battle as well. He’ll often throw a single chaos javelin, which will stick in the ground. If you dodge these javelins, they will become an obstacle throughout the rest of this encounter. In order to time these, watch Ozma. When you see him reel-back, prepare to Brink Guard. After throwing a javelin,Ozma will be momentarily vulnerable. Take advantage of this and rush in with a series of attacks.

Around halfway through the first phase of this fight, Ozma will start charging his javelins. You’ll need to adjust the timing of your guards. What him as he charges, he will pulsate with power. After the third pulse, prepare to block his javelin. You definitely don’t want this one sticking around the battlefield, as it generates a massive pool of chaos energy.
Ozma will also summon three chaos javelins above his head, and fire them off all at once. This attack will deal more damage than the standard javelin, and it has different timing. Watch Ozma’s legs, they’ll be completely still as he charges the javelins, andkicks them when he throws them. Use that knowledge to time your block.

Ozma’s AOE Attacks
Ozma has two primary AOE attacks that he likes to fall back on; one is fire-based and the other is chaos-based.When the ground around him starts to glow, get some distancefrom Ozma. You will always have time to get away. After the area around Ozma explodes, he will follow up by sending waves of outward. With the fire AOE, waves of fire will be sent in every direction. If you are far enough away, you’ll be able to move between the waves.
Far fewer waves will be sent out by the chaos-magic version, but something more frustrating happens:multiple chaos-energy tornadoes will be left floating around the arena.Pair this with a bunch of javelins stuck in the ground all over the arena, and the arena can quickly become a frustrating obstacle course to navigate.
You are going to want to be mindful of where you fight Ozma. Don’t try to fight him where you’re surrounded by these obstacles. You’ll be better off finding a part of the stage that isn’t filled with dangers. Don’t worry,if you toss a few javelins at Ozma, he’ll come straight to you.
Another AOE attack at Ozma’s disposal will cause the ground underneath your feet to ripple and then explode. When you see Ozma plunge his sword into the ground, run away from him. Alternatively, you can wait for the ripple to reach the edge of the AOE and then dodge.
Ozma will occasionally try to drag you toward these tornadoes with his vacuum spell. If he does, just sprint away. You don’t want to be around these things.
One of Ozma’s most powerful spells will come once you’ve taken him down to around half-health. He’ll rise up into the air, while chaos energy swirls all around him. The key is tododge this attack right after you see a flash of light.Keep your eye on him, and wait for that red flash, then dodge forward. Once you do, throw a javelin at Ozma. It will knock him down and leave him vulnerable.
Ozma’s Magic Sword Sequence
Once you have brought Ozma down to about a third of his health, he’ll gain access to an attack where he’ll use magic to turn his staff into a massive, double-ended magical sword (think Darth Maul). Once he does this,he’ll always perform the following actionsin the same order every time…
That first big slash can have tricky timing. Guard a little early, andif you miss the Brink Guard timing, just hold the block. You’ll have plenty of time to recover the stamina you’ll lose. Dodging the AOE attack at the end is fairly easy to do once you have a feel for the timing, but if you mess up it can very easily end your run.
Ozma’s Second Phase
Once you have taken out all of Ozma’s health, a cutscene will play, andthe next phase will begin. In this form, Ozma will completely change how he fights you. While he’ll still have a number of powerful magical attacks he’ll use to attack you from afar, he’ll also start making use of some deadly wing-based attacks.
You canrun toward Ozma when he outstretches his wing and strike him at least once before he launches into his combo. His wing swipes tend to have a bit of a delay, so you are going to have to get used to the timing. His primary combo will see him thrust his left wing forward, perform a forward slash with his right wing, pause, and then use a backward swipe with that same wing. Finally, he’ll strike you while launching himself upward with his left wing. From there, Ozma will typically follow it up with his Burst Attack (the same one he used in his first form). You’ll know this is the sequence he’ll use if he stretches his left wing outbefore he launches into this combo.
If Ozma doesn’t perform the final upward strike, and instead leaps backward, then he’s going to end the combo with two stabbing wing attacks instead.
If, on the other hand, Ozma stretches his right wing out, then he is going to perform a quick two-hit wing combo. Here he jab you with his left wing, then jab you with his right. These attacks are much quicker, so you’ll need to block these fairly quickly.
He also leaps toward you pretty fast and goes in the other direction to hit you with a chaos energy blast. Parry the leap and dodge the energy blast. He also shoots a chaos beam twice, which leaves a trail behind.
This phase has some really troublesome attacks. One of them is when Ozma flies into the air and coats his punch in chaos energy. He will punch you three times; if you dodge them, a chaos energy blast will land on the area. Do note that the last hit will be very delayed, andit will cause a massive explosion after the attack. If you Brink Guard his final strike, Ozma will be stunned. Make sure to capitalize and launch your biggest attacks as a response.
Enhanced Second Phase
Midway through the battle,Ozma will transition into a flying attack. Here he will summon several chaos javelins before firing them at you. Here, you need to look out for the delayed one, as that is more likely to hit you. After shooting all of them,he will do a slam attack. If you perfect parry the slam attack, Ozma will be stunned.
Another attack you must be careful of in this phase is when he leaps toward you several times and charges his sword. Do your best to parry all of these hits. While the leaping punches have a fairly consistent tempo, hissword strikes are delayed, making them trickier to deal with. The last sword slash can be perfectly parried, but it causes an explosion of chaos energy. So, if you already have a large amount of the chaos ailment built up,you may want to dodge the final attack instead.
Ozma will also do a slash combo, where he will launch some chaos slashes toward you. After that,he will launch a massive wall of slashes. verify to dodge these.
He also has another variation of the attack where he goes into the air and charges a massive spear. Ozma will shoot the spear toward you, sododge and run away as it will cause a massive explosion.
Another annoying attack you need to look for is when he makes a black hole out of chaos energy and fires it directly at you. This orb will suck you in, so ensure to spam the dodge button and get as much distance from it as possible. Prepare yourself, asOzma typically follows this attack with his laser projectile attack. Get out of the orb’s radius and do your best to dodge the lasers.
Once you’ve dealt a decent amount of damage to Ozma, he will summon a massive boulder infused with chaos energy. It will pulsate with energy, causing AOE damage every time it does. If you don’t destroy it within the time limit,Ozma will perform a giant AOE attack and recover some of his health. The moment the rock appears, start attacking it with your most damaging skills. You will need todestroy it before the third pulse. The boulder flashesjustbefore sending out that wave of energy, sododge once you see the flash.
If Ozma summons this boulder when he is only a few hits away from death, don’t worry about the stone and pelt Ozma with javelins.
If you chose the revenge path when speaking to Daphrona, defeating this form will provide you with the ending. Otherwise, you’ll need to defeat himone more time. Hopefully you have some Netherworld energy left as Ozma’s about to get far more aggressive.
Omza’s Third Phase
The final phase of the fight is similar to the second, though there are a few notable changes. Firstly, he has a few new moves…
Additionally, Ozma iswaymore aggressive in this form. Hell constantly be on your butt. The other thing is that he will perform his lunging burst attack much more frequently. This attack is pretty quick, and it does a ton of damage, but on the other hand, it also gives you an opportunity to counter him. Andyou absolutely need to counter him in order to win this battle.
The biggest key to victory is to land that counterattack. Look for the Burst Attack to follow histwo-hit wing combo, his four-hit wing combo, and the projectile where he pushes and pulls you. He will almost always follow those attack sequences with a Burst Attack.
