Learning how to Beekeep inRustcan give you an advantage over enemy players. On top of that, there are a few applications that can make it a very popular resource — both on the offense and the defense. However, like most things in Rust, Beekeeping has many moving parts, some of which aren’t explained well in-game.
Because of that, you may look in the wrong places or gather the wrong resources. To help you avoid these mistakes, this guide will walk you through how Beekeeping is done in Rust.

How To Find Bee Honeycombs
Before you can start Beekeeping, you need to have aBeehive Nucleus. You can find them onOak Trees with brown bark. Most of the time, they’ll be low-hanging, making it easier to interact with them.
You’ll be able to identify the Honeycomb when you seean orange-colored shapesticking out of a tree.

A good place to search would benear bodies of water. Oak Trees with Bee Honeycombs seem to spawn in high numbers in these areas.
When you spot one, take it down withan ax.
As you break down the Bee Honeycomb, bees will naturally start to attack you. You can use thestarting torchto keep the bees at bay.
After you’ve taken the Bee Honeycomb, you’ll get theconsumable Honeycomb and Beehive Nucleus.

How To Craft A Beehive
Once you’ve gotten the Beehive Nucleus, it’s time to create a place where the bees can make the Honeycombs you can use. This is done witha Beehive.
You can craft a Beehive by obtaining itsblueprint in Workbench Level 1. It should be located on thefar right side of the tech tree. The structure is relatively affordable, costing only 200 Wood. So, if you have more wood to spare, you can always makeadditional Beehives.

There are a few important things to know when making a Beehive:
How To Farm For Honeycombs
For this step, you’ll be creating and farming Honeycombs. Take the Beehive Nucleus you obtained by harvesting a Bee Honeycomb andplace it in the Beehive. This should start the process of creating Honeycombs.
As soon as the Beehive starts to make Honeycombs, bees willbe swarming around the Beehive. So make sure youwear a Hazmat suitwhen taking out the Honeycombs.
Now that you have the Honeycombs, there’s a lot you can do with them.Eating it outright won’t be damaging; it just gives you a small amount of calories.
But, if you have a large quantity of Honeycombs, you canextractJars of Honeyfrom them. This will yield a large amount ofcalories, remove radiation, and slightly heal youupon consumption.
It would be wise to hold to the Jars of Honey as well, since manyrecipes call for Honey.
You can alsosell the Jars of Honey at the Bandit Camps for scrap. When you make Honeycombs in the Beehive, the gradeof the Honeycomb increases gradually over time. At higher grades, you may be able tosell it at a higher cost.
How To Create Bee Grenades
As for the offensive properties of Beekeeping, you may create Bee Grenades. They are cheap and easy to make since they only need two ingredients:1 Beehive Nucleus and 30 Cloth.
However, you’llneed the blueprintfor the Bee Grenade to make it. You can find it in theLevel 1 Workbench, under the Beehive blueprint.
If you’re not careful, these grenades canwork for you and against you. When youthrow the Bee Grenade on the ground, it breaks, causing bees to fly out. The bees won’t know friends from foes, so they willfollow and attack anyone who’s near them, including you.
Just like interacting with a Bee Honeycomb or a Beehive, you can stop the bees from hurting you by havinga Hazmat suit onor using equipmentthat generatesfire like a flamethrower.
If the grenades are used right, the bees can offer great protection for you and your base.
