If you’re looking for a serious challenge inRunescape: Dragonwilds' Early Access period, you won’t find much that rivals the acquisition of an Abyssal Whip. It’s a powerful weapon that’s well worth pursuing, but you’ll undergo some real rigors along the way.
In this guide, we’ll tell you what you need to do, step by step, and why you ought to be doing it in the first place. A battle awaits, and a good deal of traipsing about the realm in search of key materials. It’s not a complicated process, but it can involve some overwhelming moments if you’re not properly prepared.

Battling The Abyssal Demon
to obtain theAbyssal Whip, you must defeat the appropriately-namedAbyssal Demon. You’ll find the creature in theWhispering Swamp, one of Runescape: Dragonwilds' several major regions on the map. It’s due north of the first region in the game, so it won’t take long to discover.
In Runescape: Dragonwilds, monsters each have a designated levelvisible upon approach. These levels are limited in number; atLevel 4, the Abyssal Demon is presently one of the most powerful foes the game has to offer, so you won’t want to face it until you’re properly powerful, yourself.

While there’s much more to the crafting of an Abyssal Whip than merely defeating an Abyssal Demon, the first one you bring down will nab you thecrafting recipefor it.
The Abyssal Demon is hard to miss. Head to thewesternmost section of the Whispering Swamp, not too far from the waterline (though still a bit inland). Its telltale indicator is apinkish-white glowon part of its body, but itsinsectoid shapeand decent size are all rather obvious, too.
The single most important technique here isdodging. You’ll long since have learned this, since it’s gained at a very early combat level, butwe cannot emphasize enough how important it is to be ready to dodge, as the Abyssal Demon tends torapidly lungetoward players on a routine basis.
Don’t come unprepared!Healing sourcesare going to be necessary unless you’re truly an expert-tier dodger, andeven with high-end gear, the Abyssal Demon will still hit rather hardeach time its attacks connect.
In our research, many players have kept at a (relatively) safe distance via the usage of ranged bows. Speaking for ourselves, we managed to fell the Abyssal Demon mostly at melee range, but itdidtake a while, given all the evasive maneuvers. It may be prudent to wield that bow here.
Crafting The Abyssal Whip
Before you can make yourself a shiny new Abyssal Whip, you will need to have fulfilled several steps with the game’s crafting system. We’ll tackle them in proper order:
Smithing Anvil
Abyssal Whip
In our experience, the very first Abyssal Demon we encountered dropped the Abyssal Spine.Furthermore, additional online sources cite the Abyssal Spine as a guaranteed drop. We’ve not tested the validity of that claim, so just in case this doesn’t happen, keep fighting them until one does drop.
Armed with an Abyssal Whip, you’ll reliably dealbetween 49 and 86 damageper hit, alongside other perks such as theAbyssal Snare special action. Truly, thisMasterwork weaponwill serve you well in all further killing, at least until Runescape: Dragonwilds receives further updates!
