How To Start The Brush With Death Quest

The province of Cheydinhal is abright and floral region, though it’s filled with turmoil inside the walls. Venture into the city tofind the Lythandas household. Enter the home andspeak with Tivelaabout her missing husband.

He normallylocks himself awayin the art studio, but he hasn’t come out for days. When she opened the door to check on him with an emergency key, he was gone! She hasno idea where he ran off toand needs your help.

Take the keyshe offers andenter his studio. It’s filled with canvases, paints, and other art supplies. The only point of interest within the studio is theoil canvas with a painting of a troll in the forest. Interact with the painting, and you’ll betransported inside the artworkitself!

How To Defeat The Painted Trolls

The world transforms into a painted landscape, where you’llfind Rythe Lythandasinside. He approaches you right away to tell you the tale of how he ended up here. AThiefaccosted him in his studio andstole the brush of truepaint–a magical artifact that gives Rythe his edge.

Thethieftook off with the brush andcreated the Painted Trolls,which turned on their creator andkilled him in the clearingat the far end of the painting. It’s up to you totake down the trolls and recover the brush, as Rythe is not a fighter by any means.

Rythe willgive you turpentine, which you can use to poison your weapons to better defeat the trolls.

ThePainted Trolls aren’t much differentthan your standard troll, though they look a little more… painted. They have aWeakness to Fire, butwill regenerate healthover time. They also areleveled to match youand arevulnerable to turpentine.

There aresix trolls within the forest, each of which drops asingle portion ofPainted Troll Fat. This incrediblyrare alchemical ingredientwon’t respawn and bothrestores and fortifies health and magicka. Be sure to pick these up!

You canuse the Arch-Mage’s special chestin the Mages Guild toduplicate the ingredientsfor an unlimited supply, but only if you collect these materials here and now.

After defeating the trolls, you’llfind the body of thethiefin the clearing. Look his corpse for the brush to update the quest.

How To Escape The Painting

Once you have the brush, you canbacktrack through the forest or climb over the hillto reach the starting area.Speak with Rytheto hand over the brush, where he’llpaint a portal home. You must go through first, lest you be trapped within the painted realm.

Leaving the painting will permanently lock it!

Back in the real world, speak with Rythe again tohand over the keyto his studio and complete the quest. You’ll berewarded with theApron of Adroitness, along with aboost to your Famestat.
